I found that statement to be odd as well.
Not doubt Holtby is an amazing goalie, but to suggest he's a "hall of fame goalie" based on 4 great years seems to be very premature. I can think of many NHLers who have had ridiculously great careers cut short who haven't made the hall..
As stupid as his statement was, he's not wrong that Holtby, and his track record thus far, should be getting the nod in net... - IRON.MAIDEN
Trotz has seen Grubauer outplay Holtby for the past month, if not more. Can't blame him for going w/ the hot hand! In every sport, the coach is going to go with the hot hand vs body of work everytime
Devils are doing the same thing w/ Kinkaid instead of Schneider....no? |

This is why I'm not an NHL coach. I'd pick Holtby simply based on his overall body of work, and how he's been relatively solid in the previous few years of POs.
I understand playing the hot hand, you'd be silly not to, but I just feel Holtby has earned the leeway from this team to be able to figure it out with a couple starts.
Like I said, I'd make a terrible coach, as I rely on emotion rather than logic. |

ALL these great ideas without ever watching a minute of the game I’d guess? Trotz has a lot smarter people to talk too and they can watch the game tape more then once to make decisions that you’re far from being qualified for ( you and I both ) I find it weird you think you’re smarter then most of the NHL GM’s and coaches without ever having played other then houseleague?

Holtby is a near HOF, but arguably the best goalie in the playoffs right now, MAF is overrated and only the product of the Penguins success.(some of us don't forget your ridiculousness) WOW! Tanner please just keep confirming your anti Penguins bias and discrediting your self! JOKE!!! |

Djoos should be playing, Orpik should be sitting. Trotz isn't a very good coach. All I got. |

Trots is a good regular season coach, but a horrible playoff coach. He can’t coach talent and he can’t help young players become stars. His style of play is similar to the old saying the nail that stands out gets hammered down, that’s trotz... |

Wasn't Hitchcock supposedly notorious for that?
Fat old guys don't appreciate talent methinks. |

BUT Didn't you see how Orpik 'boxed out' Vanek on that play. Stellar. Defense. |

Trotz is scratching Vrana for Beagle.
God, at this point they need to lose this series so they fire Trotz and BM. |

This is like the 10th time you've said this. I don't know why you're so obsessed with me that you'd keep repeating a BS story.
I myself decided that trying to write about two teams wasn't working and the HB mgmt asked if I'd stick with Washington if I was going to only do one. As for the comments section, I have just generally stepped back because it's a waste of time.

Seriously,. Djoos being scratched affect Carlson's play that much!!? - rrentz
Djoos with Carlson is a 54% pairing (56% is the best in the league) and Kepny with Carlon is under 50% . |

Even I didn't think Trotz would be that dumb. Unfortunately they re-upped BM just a couple of months ago. |

Than I guess Carlson better pick up his play!!! Trotz is a capable coach w/ many more resources than you, so why is he sitting Djoos? |

Honestly, no one (frank)ing knows.
Carlson has actually always been really bad at shot suppression. Djoos helped bandage that a bit. |

I completely agree that coaches have more resources than us regular humans, and that sometimes what we think are bad moves turn out to be fine. Trotz has a long and solid track record and I respect it.
But that being said, it doesn't mean he is 100% right about everything, nor does it mean he is above criticism. If we were to adopt the idea that a coach knows best simply because of his position, what would the point of offering anything more than cheerleading in these posts be?

Maybe it's just me, but seems like a lot more than criticism, in fact, it seems far too dramatic and short sighted.
Barrie Trotz is in competition with Randy Carlyle for the worst coach in the NHL, if you want my opinion.
He is brutal.
Trotz makes terrible decision after terrible decision and it makes following the Capitals extremely frustrating. Whether it's ignorance to the actual quality of play Brooks Orpik, his ignorance regarding advanced stats and analytics, or his weird decisions to scratch good player or shove them far down in the lineup at the expense of terrible players like Chandler Stephenson and Devonte Smith-Pelly/ Half of what he does is inexplicable.
I think your opinion is ridiculous, not because I feel you're right or wrong, but your delivery of your opinion is far too silly and hyperbolic.
There are times, at least from what I remember, where you could make excellent points without waiting to generate emotional replies. Maybe on a financial sense that isn't ideal for you, and I get that I guess, but FFS it is hard to respect anything you say.
I'd suggest there are many worse coaches in the NHL before Trotz, even some in the playoffs right now. Hell, Babcock ran with Komarov on the top line last night for the Leafs!, if you want to talk about questionable coaching decisions.
I like the James Tanner that sticks to the facts. I absolutely love reading about other teams and having good discussion. Just please drop the theatrics. |
