We couldn't because we had to trade a conditional pick for a goalie. If we had traded for Kane over Mrazek this team wouldn't even in the playoffs right now.

And Kane is a UFA anyway. If we want we can sign him this off-season and without having handed over substantial picks to Buffalo.
