YOU ARE ALIVE!!! Brodie is better then Larrson.

two year season stats:

Brodie: 68 points
Larsson: 32 points

enough said? Brodie is a commodity in the trade market.

- FlamesFan1230

Larsson +31 past 2 years + in each.
Brodie -32 past 2 years, -16 in each.

Fairly certain a defencemans job is to defend. Which one has done a better job between the two?

Then why is the Norris always given to the D with the best point totals?
A defencemans job is a lot more than just preventing goal opportunities.
And +\- is a terrible stat. Doesn’t tell the whole picture.

And what did Calgary give up for Hamonic? Total damage is comparable.
- wreckage

And Hamonic plays a top 4 role in the NHL. What role is/was Griffin playing? Trade for Hamonic was a solid bet (admit it- you were envious when it happened). Reinhart was a boneheaded move through and through. That Barzal kid seems like a better player than Griffin who isn’t even with you anymore. Chia threw away those picks; didn’t even try to protect Griffin at the exp draft.
No comparison ...AT ALL.

Probably not regarded half has highly as McDonough, especially not when it isn't tdl or draft day.

Who gives a crap? Why are you clowns talking about McDonaugh?

Bingo.

He had 2 up years and the past 2 years have been more consistent to his norms. He is not a top pairing guy and will not reproduce a return like what Hamonic got. Hamonic is more regarded as a better defensive defenseman with some offensive upside because of his 1 season with plus 30 points. Brods is considered a offensive defenseman with defensive flaws that has seen his offensive numbers drop in the past 2 years. Both at apx the same age. Both showing who they actually are. At 27-28 you should know what you're getting from either. Brodie is kind of trending down and doesnt hold a ton of value.... Hamonic is kinda stagnant and only hold minor upside with what his offense might still become because he showed growth 2 years ago.

Brodie is more valuable than Hamonic. It's far easier to find a Hamonic type than a Brodie type. Hamonic was also coming off a couple of bad years when he was traded. If you compare all the stats from the year he got traded, he wasn't any better than Stone.

That being said, the Flames massively overpaid for Hamonic, so it'll probably be tough to get a similar package back.

Brodie is far superior at offence, who would argue that fact? But he has his warts defensively and has taken steps backwards .

Brodie's fine defensively. The issue with him is way too many bonehead decisions when he has the puck.

Brodie is the likely candidate to be moved, as much as we think we could get a first line player in return, we are likely looking at a veteran who is more likely a top 6 than a top 3 player.

Simmonds would be a great fit (though I've been on him for a couple of years and he's got some more miles on him now)

Stone/Nylander/Marner/Toffoli etc are just plain guys that will cost more than Brodie in any deal.

As for the suggestion around 1st round+, keep in mind that McDonough went to a team who was thinking they were dealing the 31st overall pick for him this year.

For the guy suggesting Hamilton for a 1st plus from EDM, you are creating a massive hole and banking on pure potential there. Sure, Brady is a good prospect, maybe better than his brother, but I am not moving a young 1/2 dman for that player. We would be set farther back by that move.

Brodie is the logical choice here. He's relatively cheap, can play a lot of minutes, moves the puck and therefore has some value. Flames have some options for his slot, where they don't have quite the same for Hamilton's (right now)

Until we see one of those assets turn into a Hart trophy candidate, I disagree.

Maybe if they draft another Barzal quality player. 80 points this year? Daaamn.

Thats suprisingly not a bad idea and a pretty reasonable trade.

Hamilton is our best dman and still has the most potential. Trading him would be ludacris
