So Hackstal isn’t suppose to lay into his team? Pens are superior but I don’t think any roster in the NHL is just simply 7-0 better than another. There was about a 5 minute stretch in the first after Rust scored where the Flyers were playing very intense and that’s where Murray made that Fleury like save. Intensity is something every player is responsible for. Hagelin scored then(I think) and it took the wind out of Philly. I would be laying into my team if rich pro athletes that couldn’t seem to muster a little more than that performance.

They had a stretch in the 2nd period where they won like 4 faceoffs in a row in the Pens zone, but their shots were either blocked or gobbled up by Murray. The bottom line here is that over a 7 game series, the Flyers don't have the depth to match up with the Pens if the Pens fire on all cylinders. I fully expect a hard push by the Flyers tomorrow night. No one wants to be embarrassed like that again.

Jesus, Penguins Facebook posted about Murray having 3 consecutive shutouts in the playoffs dating back to Nashville last year and the hate he gets from some fans is bizarre.

Some people just can't accept the fact that fleury is on another team and we stuck with Murray, the younger, cheaper and better goalie.

CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A day after making 24 saves in a 7-0 shutout win over the Flyers in Game 1 of the Penguins’ first-round series, Matt Murray was not at practice.

It was not immediately known why Murray did not join his teammates at the Lemieux Sports Complex. Mike Sullivan will give an update following Thursday’s practice.

With his shutout over the Flyers, Murray extended his playoff shutout streak to 206:26, a franchise record. The last postseason goal he allowed was to Filip Forsberg in the third period of a 4-1 loss at Nashville in Game 3 of last year’s Stanley Cup Final on June 5, 2017.

Murray missed significant time this season with a knee injury and concussion. He also missed most of January following the death of his father.

During Thursday’s practice, Casey DeSmith manned one net while another unknown goalie in a plain white mask manned the other.
