Hornqvist is a 5 million a year player. Toews is legit 8-9 player on a UFA deal. He’s a number one center but I don’t consider him elite. Good character guy.
- sditulli

Ok I really threw him under the bus with that 5mil lol. I think he's a good player but his contract is Ludacris. Out of the high cap hit skaters he would be my last choice easily.

Horny is a warrior. Someone you want on your team to do the dirty work in front of the goalie.

Its nice to see Sid and Geno on that list. Means they've actually stayed healthy the last handful of seasons.

Tatar would be there too but he only had 19 goals in 2013-14 cause that moron Babcock healthy scratched him the first 9 games of the season cause the "tie goes to the veteran."

I've been a harsh critic of Hornqvist over the past few years. Looking at stats from previous years can be misleading because you forget about long dry spells or any other issues that happened that don't make those stats look as pretty.

That being said, I think from an all-around perspective this has been Hornqvist's best season as a Penguin and I hope we can expect this level of play from him for another couple of years.

He's a good player and an undisputed top 6 winger. Wish he was a bit younger, but hey, not everyone's the perfect player. I never thought in a million years we'd be able to bring him back on a contract that made sense. Big ups to Rutherford for making it happen.

The problem with this is that ALL players in the 40-60 point range are going to have long dry spells. I spent a bunch of the summer on the Lightning's board defending Tyler Johnson and Alex Killorn because they say the same thing about those guys that you're saying about Horny. Unless you are a legit top tier point producer, there are going to be long dry spells, with pretty much every player in the league outside the top 20 in scoring. Scoring in the NHL is hard. If it was easy, everyone would bank 100 points a year. Accepting guys like Horny, Johnson, Sheary, Killorn, etc. for what they are and realizing that 82 game seasons are long makes looking at their numbers a lot easier to digest.

I didn't feel like going into a long detail, but yes, I agree. I'm also talking about not just dry spells, but periods of downright bad play.

If you remember last year at all, he was even banished to the 4th line a bit and it wasn't for depth purposes.

I don't think the last two season saw Hornqvist's best hockey from an all-around standpoint. Again though, I think this year he's been a best on both ends and has done the little things game-in and game-out.

What top 6 winger not named Kessel hasn't been banished to the 4th line in recent years?

I think there were 3 or 4 7-0 games last year and the team that lost won the next game every time. But that was last year. (frank) them.

As bad as Marchand is, and he is bad, how is it that Wilson (43) seems to get by with 2 minute penalties for things everyone else gets majors or suspensions for? I just don't understand how a "player" like him continues in the NHL with the level of injuries he's handed out with his "hard checks." In my opinion, other than Douchinsky he's my most hated player in the league.

Okay, I am one of the BIGGEST anti Horny contracts here due to the term... but he was demoted due to his injury. It was a fractured wrist or something no? So... no dice on that one for you bud

I haven't paid attention to the Caps at all this season, but the last couple of years he's certainly been a predatory hitter. One thing is being Brooks Orpik/Shane Doan and play on the line which every once in a while leads to a really bad hit, but Tom Wilson strikes me more of a Raffi Torres who actively seeks out knees and heads.
