See what Ben Simmons did last night?
Imagine what he'll be when he gets a jumper. |

Didn’t, I have a private Facebook group that talks sports, most Philly fans but members across the cross country and fans of different teams
One person in there, thought Simmons was the best |

Ever see some of the quotes from opposing coaches about Simmons?
Like, open talk of "I had no answer for that guy".
He doesn't even have a jumper yet.
He's just scratching the surface. |

Right now? I guess you have to say Foles given the last games he played. That was all time stuff. We all know he's crashing back to Earth though.
I put G over Embiid and Simmons right now but I think both may have a higher ceiling in the long run. I'm not a huge basketball guy tho. I know people gush over Simmons. The games I've seen just don't match up with how amazing people say he is. I guess I need to see more of him. |

It is crazy. Last night I just thought to myself I am witnessing a generational player. |

I'm an old and agree. When he took Nola out on opening day, I died a little inside.
I just like to see people think outside the box sometimes. I don't know if it's gonna work, but I wanna see it, you know? - johndewar
The Nola one was tough. A little too much thinking at that point I'd say. |

He's a mismatch across the league. My favorite thing about the Deadspin piece on Fultz's jumper where they interviewed Herb Magee is that Herb gushed about Simmons without being asked. Herb is a billionty years old and has seen it all.
He controlled play last night against the presumtive Eastern Conference finalists.
I think people need to rethink how the Sixers are gonna fare in the playoffs.

I admire what Simmons is and likely will be, and he is awesome and the Sixers look primed
But holy hell, people. Carson Wentz was gonna be the MVP of the National Football League...in his second season
Claude Giroux might be the MVP of the NHL this season
I give the Sixers all due credit for getting out of the ditch, though I don't respect how they did it
But Wentz might be the best QB in the league for another five or six years if he progresses and heals properly |

I know Hockeybuzz doesn't always like it when we talk NBA, but I'm that age when you liked all 4 Philly teams no matter what.
I love seeing the Sixers relevant again! Doc, Cheeks, Bobby Jones, Daryl Dawkins were among my first sports heroes. |

Who is the best player in Philly right now, all 4 sports - wcorvette
Great question. I'll base my answer off the recent past since G is really the only one who's been doing it a while (how exciting!)
I think it's gotta be Wentz. Giroux is 1b- MVP caliber this year, just like Wentz, ties the room together, just like Wentz. Difference is just the nature of their sports- the NFL qb is THE guy, where any NHL player doesn't nearly have as much of an impact on their game no matter how dominant they are during the 1/3rd of the game they play, 1 minute at a time.
Embiid and Simmons are elite talents but they're not quite at Wentz/Giroux level of MVP caliber domination. Yet. For what it's worth I think Simmons has a tremendous shot at being Philly's best athlete once Giroux retires. If I had to guess though Wentz is the class of the city for a loooooong time.
EDIT: The class of a city that includes Provorov in his prime, maybe Hart, Ghost, Patrick, Hoskins, Nola, Embiid, Simmons, Fultz....jesus christ! |
