aren't they moving back to Nassau Coliseum in the interim? - Fountain-San
Splitting their time between the two, until the new arena is built.
"...the Islanders had agreed to play 12 games at Nassau Coliseum next season and 48 games over the 2019-2020 and 2020-21 campaigns."

Is it possible there could be a sign and trade with a team like Toronto? - maximumcarnage
Doubt it.
Why would Toronto agree to it?
If JT indicates he would agree to that, why would the Leafs give up assets? They'd already know he wants to come to Toronto.
8th year may be a big deal for JT, but it's insignificant to Toronto. |

I don't know Toronto's cap situation I've only read that they may need to clear up some space to sign him. So I figured a sign and trade might work for both teams. |

How does a sign and trade help Toronto's cap space?
Edit: are you proposing the Islanders agree to eat some Tavares salary in return for assets?
Hmmmmm...interesting.
Not sure if the Islanders would want to do it...but I'm sure the Leafs would be interested. |

You also have young RFA in the next few years that are going to want a raise. Possibly they could send a guy like Nylander or Marner to the Islanders. I guess as an Islanders fan I am hoping for something in return when they lose Tavares.

I really don't see them sending you anything like that.
Tavares either signs with the Islanders or walks. You're pretty much in "all or nothing" territory now.

95% of the time, guys stay with their team.
The one thing that would worry me if I was an Islanders fan is the current arena situation.
Yes, it's great that there's a new arena on the horizon.
But being realistic, it's not going to be ready for minimum four years (yes, I know they are currently saying three, but no way in heck they keep to that schedule).
So if you are JT, do you want to sign an 8 year deal, knowing at least half of it is playing on slush or at Nassau?
There's only one certainty right now: it's going to be interesting. |

Tavares called me himself. He asked me if Ek had heard anything about which team he's signing with on July 1st. I told him to stay tuned and more to come... Then he asked me if he could borrow 10 bucks to pay for a hockey buzz season ticket. - gergeswillems
Once Yzerman convinces him to sign for 7 years at 3.75 per year, he will be able to afford almost 10's of Hockeybuzz season tickets. |

This is what makes this whole thing so CRAZY!!!
At first, I thought that Ek was just making up this roomer.
But then I read the bit about Yonge Street. YONGE STREET! That's an actual street in Toronto! It's downtown and everything - WHERE TAVARES WOULD HAVE FRIENDS!!!
Nobody but an insider would have inside knowledge like this.
This is happening. - Atomic Wedgie

I worry about that too, but JT loves playing in Nassau. He looks like the type of guy who wants to finish what he started. I think his biggest issue GArth producing a some what decent team. We might have one or two guys here but most of these guys would either be in the AHL or on someone 4th line.
That being said JT has not played like he wants to win wither. On the defense side he is atrocious. Plays lazy at times and makes some real stupid passes.

What a lame post... Btw, he wants the money but he also wants to win.... that is why he is not going to Buffalo, Detroit, Mtl, NYR.... etc...This is all just jibberish. He will stay in NYI or he will go to the Leafs as their #2 center.... Lou L. could make it work, he has a lot of inexpensive very good young players... |

In all seriousness though, if Tavares goes for Max money it's going to be a combination of salary and sponsorship money. That means big market like Toronto or the Rangers. A team friendly deal is easier to accept if there's another company stuffing money in your other pockets to wear their clothes or endorse their junk. |

He has approx. 35M to play with in the summer. We can fit him in, just for about a year we will be a little cap struck but once marleau off the books and some other people, we will be good again. But we can fit all of tavares, marner, nylander, and matthews no doubt. |
