It absolutely sucks. People forget how good Lydman and Tallinder were together. If they were healthy, definitely a cup win IMO. Sucks.

defense by committee, and a fast flying young goal scoring offense is what we had. the most fun team ive ever watched. we scored goals at will and in bunches. every time we were down late in a game and needed a clutch goal i just knew we were going to make it happen and we did. those were the days when in was really really fun to be a sabres fan.
i think its possible to replicate a team like that after this next lockout if botts plays his cards right and makes a couple savvy moves at the right time for the right pieces. im hopeful anyways.

Not sure, ask Adam Larsson

to be fair, its chiapet and the oilers

not only that trade but a 1st (barzal) for g reinhart who never showed he could have any impact or even stay in the line up

then his other brilliant trades

All kidding aside, that was a serious bomb of a shot by Voynov. Didn’t even see it go in live. Shea Weber through the net caliber.

this is universally known.
its not your fault he was that stupid to trade hall for larsson. its tim murrays fault he did what he did and allowed chiarelli to even have the opportunity to make the call to you guys in the first place.

Agreed. Pachla pointed out before this season about that "defense by committee" approach carried the sabres to the playoffs in Pegula's first season as owner. I really thought that might happen this year. I was predicting 15 goals for Risto, 12 for Bogo (I'm an optimistic idiot), 10 for scandella and Beaulieu, and 5 each for McCabe and Antipin. I really thought Housley would teach the D to score.

you can't teach speed and talent unfortunately. Not by the time they are in the nhl anyways

True. I have very little faith in Housley's ability to lead this team though. Risto has a hattrick in this league, but Housley isn't getting that out of him

05/06 was the year. Sabres started to run out of gas in 2nd half of 06/07. They never looked dominant even against the Isles in the first round that year. Lindy said they got used to scoring themselves out of trouble. So true.

That group is the measuring stick. They did come out of nowhere so I guess there’s a chance. I don’t know about Housley

yeah, the guys we have here just arent good enough. i also wonder if housley is the right guy for the job. even the quieter more even keeled coaches to take their teams to the cup still have fire in their veins when need be. suter comes to mind with la. most of the time he just stood there doing his thing but he would unload on guys, referees, whoever when he felt the time was right. i just dont ever see that from housley. theres been a couple times this year where he could have gone ballistic for whatever reason just to try and give them a spark, instead he just stands there and chews his gum. i dunno. for example i was at the game in minnesota this year when we were down a couple goals early and risto got ejected well after the call was made during a commercial break for a total bullpoop interference call, it would have been a perfect time to go all lindy ruff on the refs, get ejected and gain some respect. nope, he just chomped away on the bench. i was pissed. i wanted laviolette years ago. hes the kind of coach i like, and yet again he takes his team deep into the playoffs last year.

I don’t get the sense the teams who are interested in E Kane in BUF are same teams who were/are chasing Nash with NYR but Kane suitors will no doubt want to see what is potential yield on any Nash deal. SJ, ANA and, to lesser extent PHI, reportedly looking at E Kane.

Because PHI is playing so well, GM Ron Hextall may want to enhance his team’s chances of getting into playoffs/doing well, but he’s been hesitant to pay premium prices on a rental. Some of other teams (not PHI) eyeing E Kane may be considering him possibly more than a rental.

Boston Bruins’ forward Patrice Bergeron is in a walking boot on his right leg after the game vs. the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Good thing they have Gionta coming to save to day.

It would at least be fun to follow standings hoping SJ, Ana or LA miss the playoffs if Botts can weasel a 1st out of one of them. Then win a lottery with that pick.

that would be the dream scenario. if botts is actually just trying to wait and get a first from whoever he views as the worst team (most likely to miss the playoffs) i would be totally on board.
if he ended up with two picks in the top 4 i might poop.

It’s always two unknowns and one equation with Buffalo sports teams. Fans wouldn’t know what to do if they were gifted the 2nd equation.

I can't see the sharks moving a first after moving their 2nd and 3rd rounders for this year.

Blues are said to be after non rentals so thats kinda surprising.
