How many true number ones are there in the nhl though?
I think a defense by committe would work just fine in all honesty.

- TheHank

Agreed. Another goal scorer or two would make the defense look a lot better.

All Holzinger had to do was play the body instead of the puck... No Goal would have never happened.
- BareMetal

I dont really want to talk about it. That car ride home was the longest 3 hours of my life at the time.
I still think 2006 was our year. We were the best team that year, everything came together except for the injuries on defense. Every time someone says "why would anyone trade a third for weber" or "nobody wants josh georges" i reply with "i wish darcy had just grabbed another guy before that playoff run, anyone besides doug janek and jeff jilson and nathan paetsch (sp?) and we might have hoisted the cup. Im still more bitter about that one than 1999 honestly.

Just because the penguins did it that way and won 2 Stanley cups doesn't mean it would work here.

Wait a minute,

It could work in buffalo, With risto.

Thats what they have now. Its just a committee of suck. You don't need superstars, but you do need difference makers.
- Sabresfan-365

Of course. I think we are in agreement here.

It’s possible we could have had Hall twice.

Is Adam Larsson better than Myers? Nope

- sbroads24

Thank God that the oilers and sabres didn't make that trade

It would have worked for us in 2006 if wrists didnt break, ankles didnt snap, and brains had stayed in tact a couple weeks longer.

agreed

They all play the same out dated style of hockey and none of them are even close to average or better in their own end.

Id be more focused on putting together a balanced/modern defence core than swing for superstars. Certainly more realistic/doable

The fact that jay McKee was using his pee wee shin pads , because he was superstitious still hurts.

Without risto, it just looks thin and talentless.

I hope guhle is good, but he's young. Prospect still
McCabe is inconsistent and slow
Nelson has 25 nhl games experience
Antipin couldn't crack the 30th place line up.
Not going to win the lottery with Dahlin
Boqvist may be on the guhle 3 year plan.

I like all these guys, but I'm a super homer

- Boss34

They really need to land a college FA and hopefully sign Borgen.

Nelson is a UFA, Guhle will be a rookie, and everyone else's stock is down this year.

That too, goddamnit!
Lets not talk about this anymore, there isnt enough scotch in the world to remove the hurt from my butt about that year.

This is where I believe darcy (frank)ed us harder than murray. All the draft graphs out there lauded the sabres for finding NHL talent where the success rate was low.

The problem with this of course was that he literally drafted the lowest risk talent he possibly could. In other words from round 2-7 he looked for guys like mccabe and foligno vs Josi or Benn.

Id rather they draft a slew of busts and have one or two be gems then find a bunch of foligno's. If you're half competent, you should be able to find those guys in FA with little to no trouble.

This is kind of how i feel about the bills drafting quarterbacks. Waste low draft picks on high risk high reward guys and sooner or later you gotta hit on one.

Score some goals next year
win at home
Mitts looks good
Guhle looks good
Ullmark looks capable
Eichel really breaks out.
Hang around and start hot early
Be in a position to discuss trade line deadline coming our way.
Top 10 pick

That's what I'm hoping for.

They're lottery tickets, varying in value, but lottery tickets all the same. it's a waste to pay your scouting staff all that money to pick guys with low upside.

You could say that about all 22 players the sabres dressed today except risto.

He's very good,
Not great currently. Upside though for sure.

- Boss34

Disagree. He’s a pretty average player.

He routinely gets burned and doesn’t pass well enough to be considered a puck mover.

He’s a PP specialist

Could be 31st tomorrow with a game in hand for last. Khudobin’s gotta love playing the Sabres. He’d be a perennial Vezina finalist if he played every game vs em.

Risto is having an off year.
He is a keeper
He plays a bit too much. Causing errors.
The losing effects some guys more than others.
He's that guy in my opinion. Competitive
Beast mode every game.
Love it when guys try and ram him (Tom wilson) and they go down
Work out warrior

How could an average player have brought in Taylor hall?

he ices the puck all the (frank)ing time for no reason. probably partly why he is up there in ice time leaders every year, we arent allowed to take him off the ice half the time.
