Hall and Eichel would have sold all of the tickets

Not as many as pk88 and eichel

I'm no fan of Murray, but at the time Risto looked like he was on his way to becoming a legit #1 Dman, something we really needed. We just traded Zads, Myers, Mcnabb, so I'm not sure how many of us would have pulled the trigger right then either.
- sskkoo1

Zads myers and mcnabb never should have been traded though. Just a round about way of quantifying how much gmtm actually did (frank) us.

I agree. Risto was our best player before eichel.

At that time anyways.

I still love risto , he's a total beast.
He's not perfect, but he's the hardest guy to place against on the sabres.

The Boston Bruins are reportedly the frontrunner in the Rick Nash sweepstakes.

The Bruins have the prospect pool to make it work in addition to control of their first round pick, so it's more of a question of if Boston and the Rangers can agree on a price and if they make the cap situation work. Nash isn't the star he once was and it wouldn't be surprising if the final price for him feels like overpaying for his services. That being said, he is still a significant offensive threat and one of the most appealing forwards available.

He’s not half the player Taylor Hall is.

Brendan Guhle will be better than Ristolainen by November of next year.

Too much has been asked of Risto. It's nice that Nelson seems to be turning into an NHLer, and Antipin has potential and is getting better. Add Guhle and if we can ever get any lotto luck, Dahlin, and I believe this team completely turns it around next season.

At the time I would have said no also.

Recently, things have changed:

Risto losing confidence
Hall gaining confidence.

Not sure if I would do it right now either.
So who's our #1? McCabe? Scandella? Antipin?

I thought he might have been our best defenseman in january of this year.

Neither but if I had to pick I would say Scandella due to experience alone.

Risto is a PP specialist who hits people.

He’s the Finnish Phaneuf

Gmtm should have said no to all the bone headed trades he made before that offer.
Then said yes to that one.
This team needs elite talent, hall is such a player.

We don't have a #1, but that doesn't mean we have to be terrible next season either. Guhle, Scandella, Risto, McCabe, Nelson, Antipin is not the NHL's worst defense. If we add Dahlin or Boqvist that would go along way as well. And, who knows what GMJB might be able to trade for this summer.

Minnesota's 6/7
Buffalo's 1.

Slight gap of talent there.

I think we would be selling on an all time low with risto.

He's a young guy stiill, reasonable contract.
Durable, minute eater, tough, physical, can score.

Playoff type guy

We just desperately need that #1

I dont disagree. I was thinking that in the spring of 1999 late one night sitting in section 114 row 20 seat 2 as i was waiting for the players to come back on the ice and continue a game that shouldnt have been over. But, he was really(frank)ing good.

All Holzinger had to do was play the body instead of the puck... No Goal would have never happened.

How many true number ones are there in the nhl though?
I think a defense by committe would work just fine in all honesty.

Without risto, it just looks thin and talentless.

I hope guhle is good, but he's young. Prospect still
McCabe is inconsistent and slow
Nelson has 25 nhl games experience
Antipin couldn't crack the 30th place line up.
Not going to win the lottery with Dahlin
Boqvist may be on the guhle 3 year plan.

I like all these guys, but I'm a super homer

I was a few rows up along the left field foul line at Pilot Field with the rest of the peasants.

You could say that about all 22 players the sabres dressed today except risto.

He's very good,
Not great currently. Upside though for sure.
