Botts's Kane trading strategy is either going to be brilliant or blow up in his face. By allowing these other trades to occur first, maybe he thinks that the rivals to the Penguins will "panic" and increase what they are willing to give for Kane. I assume this was has thinking from the beginning. Either that or the market (from Botts's perceptive) hasn't yet materialized for Kane.

I don't think almost making the olympic team really counts for anything. Dahlin made it and they never used him. Nobody knew who he was till this trade and he hasn't done anything that would suggest he's anywhere near a "B" prospect.

B prospects are guys like Asplund and Mitchell Stephens.
