Yep. The women's tournament is a snoozer in that regard. Everyone knows it's going to be US-Canada for the gold. All of the other games leading up to that game are just warm ups.
I really hope the NHL stays out of the Olympics for good. - Scoob
not happening. you know Bettman has his sights on China. |

I think that the collective front office has done a good job in general. That doesn't mean that some of their decision are beyond question like some would have you think.
Yes, it's working right now. That doesn't mean that certain decision wouldn't have it working better, and it also means that it might be working despite several puzzling (to put it mildly) decisions. - jmatchett383
Lindblom playing well now that he finally gets the chance to play in the NHL proves he would not have been good earlier. The team playing very well now that they are more than a 1 line team with depth issues proves the team wouldn't have been better had they made the moves to do that earlier. I love how people that want the younger (read: better) players to play are somehow anti-organ-I-zation. I find it very reasonable to be completely happy they are 1 point out of 1st while acknowledging they aren't as good as they could be. |

Kovalchuk and Datsyk say hello. Russia seemed to be the easy gold favorite coming in. I would LOVE to see Germany beat them but its highly unlikely. here's hoping. - nastyflyergirl
They're entitled to. They can't cut it in the NHL anymore so they're Olympic eligible. I'm fine with that. |

There are. Some of them* are just too hell-bent on thinking/proving they are "right" rather than just enjoying conversation.
*My list includes more than a handful so before some of you frankers** get all high and mighty, understand that your name is probably on the list, too.
**You know who you are. lol

I would have assumed that the KHL and SEL players would dominate. I had them slated for the Gold Medal game. |

I don't like a lot of Hakstol's decisions. But he's also made a few very nice decisions. I'd say my take on him is more bad than good, and I wouldn't shed a tear if he was replaced. At the same time, I'm not going to tear my hair out as long as he has the team progressing.
Also, to flat-out say that Hakstol and co. always make the right decision* is just as biased and blind as the people he say they suck and do not right.
*You know who you are* - jmatchett383
lol
I'm picking up what you're putting down.
I don't like some decisions both management and coaching make, but it's mostly because I probably don't understand all of the reasons (many of the reasons are completely unknown actually) for those decisions. I fully admit that. And perhaps if I had all of the info/reasons I may feel differently about those decisions. |

I liked the Mrazek trade on how it was structured but it does hamper any deadline deals. They can't trade the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th rd. picks. Not that Hextall was going to anyway. Dude is probably in a straight jacket in a padded room somewhere muttering to himself: "Curse us and splash us! My precious is lost!" |

In many respects China is a disaster. Imho, that will not go well at all. |

I have no doubt both could be in the NHL if they wanted to be. Point being its not really wide open for the gold. the rest, sure. I personally want to see the best hockey players in the world playing. This isn't even as good, talent wise, as the world championships because you still see NHL players from the eliminated teams there. its hockey so i watch and enjoy. but I rather see the best there.
I agree about the women's tournament. Until the rest of the world catches up its a problem. I believe its been Canada and the US in every olympic and world championship tournament except 2006 when the Swedes upset the Americans. Problem is the other countries will never get the same funding the US and Canadians get for women's hockey. |

they have 2 4th round picks so they can still move one if Hextall sees a deal he likes |

For the men, if and when you want to see the best, watch the NHL. :-) We are very lucky that we can watch the best basically any time we want.
On the women's side, countries will start to catch up, but it will take time. On the men's side, if the NHL keeps out, countries will catch up, and much faster than the women's side. |

its been 20 years for the olympics and 28 years for the world championships and they haven't really caught up. I thought with the Swedes winning silver in 2006 it was starting to happen but the reality was it happened because they had an amazing goalie in Kim Martin. Look at the Finns, they have Raty in goal but they still can't make a dent in catching up. its all about funding and opportunity for the women and its just not there in other countries like the US and Canada. and even more so for a long long time is was US/Canada then Sweden/Finland. Russia and the swiss have caught up to them at least.
sorry probably more women's hockey talk than anyone here wants. Being a long time female player who has been lucky to play with Shelley Looney and Nicole Uliasz who have played on the Olympic and national teams respectively, women's hockey is dear to me. |

Of course, but to flat out say that management sucks and so does Hakstol, is just wrong. And yes, there are those here who say just that. - Scoob
If you think this is bad, visit the hf forum. There's a thread in there called Fire Hakstol and it started last year.

Crazy to think, had we won a couple games during that 10 game winless streak, we would be in first place. |

I agree. I really want the rest of the women's teams to "catch up" to the North American teams.
I thought 2006 was going to have a bigger impact but, to your point, I think money is the biggest obstacle.
