I think a cheap veteran reliable defenseman is needed for defensive depth. I don't agree with those who want Hextall to become an all out buyer though. - MJL
i would like to see a cheap veteran 4th liner / PK added. The PK could be the death of this team come playoff time. No harm in trying to upgrade if price is right

Roster expands after the trade deadline. We could see internal upgrades coming than. Lindblom clearly belongs had some hiccups and some awesome plays at the same time. Happy to see him grow. Other options could include nak or vecchione coming up to play on the 4th line or even ghoul back although I don't like him over lehtera (don't stone me) - Tfaehner
I doubt they do much of that because the Phantoms are also in a playoff position. I don't really think they want to gut the team when they are good enough to win it all in the AHL.

Lets look at some facts on that. Dale Weise only played one shift in the final 4 minutes. Lehtera played two shifts and one of them started at 19:54 with 6 seconds left in the game. Filppula played two shifts in the final 4 minutes. A big factor in player deployment in the final 4 minutes was that Sean Couturier also played two shifts but got caught out on a long extended shift from 17:47 to 19:54 that lasted 2:07 in duration. The coach favors the veteran Filppula over Laughton late in games. Many coaches will favor the experienced veteran over the younger player in that situation.
Many gripes that some have really aren't looking at the facts of the game and are really just based on who they like or don't like as a player rather than focusing on if it was sound strategy or not regardless of any bias. - MJL
It's not bias to say that Dale Weise is playing awful and should have not been on the ice at all during the last 5 minutes. I'm fine with the use of Filppula and I can live with Lehtera, but Weise is just flat out bad and needs to be out of the lineup as soon as possible.

With Simmonds and Konecny out the only other choices last night were Raffl, Lehtera, or Laughton. - MJL
The way Weise was playing last night, I'd take any of those 3 over him.

Was at the game last night, Anyone know why play was called dead when Coots had the break-a-way and Columbus had too many men on the ice? No one in the stands seemed to have a clue what happened there. |

What's your definition of all out buyer?
The Flyers have assets and probably some extra assets that they can use to make this team better. Again your top guys are having great years and you have no clue if you'll ever be in this position again.
I think you can buy without selling the farm. I also think he owes it to the team to give them the best chance to contend.
Also say you move one of your extra first rounders and you don't win the cup. You have a guy like Simmonds that can be used to regain one back and also replace any prospects lost in the deal.

Are you confused/surprised of what the majority of us feel about the fourth line, Weise especially? |

So trade a first for a rental who walks, don't win the cup and than trade simmer for that first rounder back ? That sounds like a net negative to me |

Despite Weise not playing well overall he is still a veteran and reliable defensively. Flyers have a lot of young players and the coach shortens the bench late in games with the lead. Hopefully when Simmonds and Konecny return changes will be made.

Other than possibly a cheap depth defenseman, I don't want to see the Flyers trade for any playoff rental players. |

looks like we're going to be giving up a 2nd round pick to detroit boys - Nucker101
The Flyers should trade that 2nd round pick now and when the Red Wings come to collect they can just shrug their shoulders ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ |

I don't know what game you were watching last night, but Weise was horrible in all 3 zones. He is not reliable at anything, unless you count just going through the motions and accomplishing nothing as a skill set.
During the last 5-6 minutes of the game I would have shortened the lines to:
G-Coots-Raffl
Lindblom-Patrick-Jake
Lehtera-Filppula-Weal
Weal may not be the 2nd coming of Bob Gainey, but he's still a better option than Dale Weise at this point. |

Who said rental?
There are other guys that you could get that aren't rentals. Montreal seams to want to move on from Galchenyuk. Bennett seems to be a name being floated by the Flames. Would you aim big and see if a 1st, Morin, Rubtsov and maybe some more could land you Ekman-Larsson and Domi?

You're being disingenuous with the I don't know what game I was watching here because you're aware of my comments that I made last night during the game concerning Weise. Hakstol like pretty much every coach is going to favor veteran players over rookie players. I don't see Weal as a good choice to play in a late game situation where a lot of board and corner play will likely occur. Weise is really not a great choice for any time right now with his play but I'm not going to criticize the coach for using his roster especially when he has the team 1 point out of first in the Metro. They are consistently winning with this coaches decision making.

Oel and domi would probably be sanheim 1st plus another pick and probably frost / Allison. And no I don't make that trade. |

Heck, I'd just be happy to pick up a guy like Jordie Benn from Montreal who can step into the 3rd pair and be an immediate upgrade over Manning. He's not going to cost you much, is signed for next year at 1.1 million which is perfectly reasonable for a 6/7 guy and, as a bonus, he has a rocking beard. |

It all depends on the market, and if it's a buyers market like some would suggest, I think the Flyers are in position to buy. I agree I wouldn't go all out and a more solid/experienced 3rd pair defense and maybe if a depth scoring wing would be nice, but only in the right deal. No sense making a deal to make a deal, which I have total confidence Hexy wouldn't |

I would be good with that. But i wouldn't be against a bigger move if there. I just don't want to waste the season my top guys are having for the future which isn't anything i can predict. I can love what Morin could bring and the Chara/Pronger comparisons but he isn't them and I don't know what he will be. He is just an example. But if I was able to get a bonafide top four guy, who isn't a rental, I think they should make the move. |

Columbus doesn't seem as ready to deal. Especially after another loss. I think if manning is out long term you may actually see hexy make a move for the d man you want |
