is that due to considering reeves a first round equity due to his trade, or was something new and terrible announced
- stayinthefnnet

Yes it was a reaves joke I was hoping would get a bit more play

Dont disagree with that as much as its impressive to see a team go all in after the prize..

when Crosby and Malkin retire..then it will suck for you.. =)

If I was sitting on a bed of stanley cups I wouldn't care if it was a 10 year rebuild either. Go for broke for 3 4 5 straight than tank for 10

the organization is pretty high on jarry too.

i liked gustavsson from what ive seen, but i wont try and act like im a scouting savant or anything. potential or not hes still a young goalie with a while to go. the market for goalies is usually not that great from a trade perspective anyway.

the first always stinks but it is what it is. you have a roughly four year window where you need to focus on.

brassard is a perfect fit for the team, and im fine paying a bit of an inflated rate when you consider the retained salary. honestly, the cole part stings a bit. i understand he was never going to resign with the pens, but having hunwick have to play regular minutes is a huge problem. cole is the perfect type of understated guy that really excels in the playoffs

- stayinthefnnet

I just wonder if its not better to give up a top goalie prospect and #1 for a younger player who is under contract or control longer. but I definitely agree with the window being Crosby Malkin Kessel and Letang are all over 30 now and going on all.

In some ways I would've rather kept Gustavsson. Murray is young enough I guess and they can find another goalie, but Jarry could be in Grubauer territory soon.

true. i just dont know what other players are/were available. the extra year of term gives you two playoff runs. that and the retained salary make it a little better than a traditional rental deal.

i guess the flyers version would be hart? would he be a deal breaker for you in a deal that you thought could scoot them over the threshold?

Yes. It would be a deal breaker. But hart is > gustavson in my eyes. I would trade sandstrom or any our others though

Also Ottawa is apparently saying if you thought this trade was bonkers hold my poodle. Apparently they are in the process of negotiating a 4 team trade that ends with karlson in Tampa and a team taking on ryan contract. Picks prospects and other players being disbursed throughout the 4. Holy poop.

i have a feeling TB is seeing the brassard deal and are going to ensure that they get karlsson.

having karlsson or hedman on the ice for practically the whole game. wow.

I can't wait to see Mrazek stand on his twitchy head against the Pens in the playoffs.

Hart is definitely a better prospect even though gustavsson won goalie of the tournament at the WJC. Having Murray really does wonders though. Not sure they give up Gus if they only have Fleury.

im just not a huge guy on goalies. especially when they are young. i dont think they have value like a young center or defenseman. the development can be erratic and that next jump sometimes doesnt come.

you can also usually find passable tending for reasonable prices at almost any time. look at the flyers scooping mrazek.

i'm not even a gigantic murray guy. i think he is good, but not top 5 in the league good. murray's best attribute is that he currently vastly outperforms his cap hit.
