I think Neuvirth becomes the odd man out and gets waived. If Mrazek plays well, he probably becomes the primary starter unless/until he really falters. - jmatchett383
its been 20 years for the olympics and 28 years for the world championships and they haven't really caught up. I thought with the Swedes winning silver in 2006 it was starting to happen but the reality was it happened because they had an amazing goalie in Kim Martin. Look at the Finns, they have Raty in goal but they still can't make a dent in catching up. its all about funding and opportunity for the women and its just not there in other countries like the US and Canada. and even more so for a long long time is was US/Canada then Sweden/Finland. Russia and the swiss have caught up to them at least.
sorry probably more women's hockey talk than anyone here wants. Being a long time female player who has been lucky to play with Shelley Looney and Nicole Uliasz who have played on the Olympic and national teams respectively, women's hockey is dear to me. - nastyflyergirl
Women's gold medal game was everything the Olympics should be about. They put everything into that, often times having to have jobs other than hockey. It was great to watch
so I've been away and haven't had much internet access, so I'm sure this has been discussed already, but what happens when all 3 goalies are healthy? - LJF
I dont think they have too. I said yesterday I thought Flyers would lose, they didn't, they showed me they are a better team than the Jackets. That means they are just better than the teams below them. I do think they are closer to the Pens than I thought. If there is a hockey trade, make it but stick to the plan.
The Flyers are stocked for next year and beyond, the Pens are not. - wcorvette
I am content with just making the playoffs. Nothing further please. Mrazek was a nice trade because neuvirth is not an option next year anymore imo
No one is likely getting waived when it comes to goalies. Neuvirth probably won't be healthy til well beyond the deadline so they will probably send him down, as allowed in the CBA, to get a game or 2 in at the AHL level (just to make sure he can get through a game without a limb dropping off), and then bring him back up to be the #3 for the last couple games and the playoff run. Team routinely carry 3 goalies during the playoffs.

Yes, there is no roster limit or salary cap after the regular season ends.

I think they will keep 3 goalies. I have doubts that Mrazek signs for next year, but either way one of them will be gone next season. Call me crazy, but I actually hope Neuvirth is the backup next year so Stolarz and/or Lyon will see NHL time.
I will add that I feel bad for Lyon because he is a capable goalie (just because I was mostly away when the trade went down). I wouldn't have had an issue with them rolling with him, but I am not about to complain about Mrazek...that was a pretty good trade with little risk. Lyon is more skilled than some NHL backups though.
Grade 10. High school lunch hour intermural floor hockey “league”.
Going up against the grade 12 team mainly compromised of the players that actually played for the school ice hockey team.
Wore my Flyers jersey playing goalie. We won 1-0. Usually the whole school turns out for these games and there were a few “Philly Philly” chants. Had an incredible game.
I am cocky about this, even with how sad it is hah. - flyer_nutter

Neuvirth should be done. Unfortunately can’t rely on his health. Even for a backup you need them to be able to provide some confidence in being able to rattle off a few games.
Not sure what they do there. Spots need to be open in the A for the kids.
Highlight of my career was the time at the Spectrum, during a relatively quiet lull, and sitting just a few rows behind the visitors bench, I loudly insinuated that Tomas Sandstrom engaged in sexual intercourse with his maternal parent. Besides the laughter from the stands, at least 2 Rags players turned and looked back into the stands for a moment.
Also, Sandstrom, at no time, issued any type of denial. (frank)ing mother(frank)er!!
And no, I DID NOT SAY FRANK!!! - BiggE
Highlight of my career was the playoffs two years ago against the caps. We were by the caps warmups and I called Tom Wilson a female dog and told him he was gonna get lit up tonight. He turned and laughed at me. Later that night, Brandon , the goat, Manning took his soul from his body.
May or may not have been a hit to the head but oh well it's Tom Wilson so honestly who really cares?
also regarding the olympics (and young players)...they interviewed Tony Granato during the womens gold medal match. They brought up the subject of NCAA players on the olympic team and how they were deciding if 7 college players or 10 college players would be a good idea.
He says they ended up choosing 4 and they felt that was the perfect mix the day after getting eliminated while the best player on the team was a college player (Donato) and 2 others were some of their best players (Greenway and Terry). Pretty normal thing for coaches to overvalue experience

Highlight of my career was during a pickup game, some guy brought his kid who was probably like 9 or 10...every time this kid was on the ice and ended up with the puck people would let him skate down the ice end to end and easily score on the goalies. During my rotation he tried it same as every other time, but I stoned the absolute (frank) out of that little poop.

Highlight of my career was senior year baseball game. I was dating a junior who had an older ex boyfriend who wouldn't leave her alone. And by older I mean he was 23. Bit of a dirtbag.
So anyway, she was in the stands and he drives up, parks in the lot that is beyond left field and proceeds to approach her. I am at bat at this moment and sort of watching it go down as they walk up the 3rd base line fence and he proceeds to start berating her.
His car is about 400 feet away as the crow flies. Anyway, the pitcher throws me an inside meatball which I proceed to hit a long majestic bomb that lands squarely in the middle of his windshield and embeds itself there in the glass.
I trot around the bases staring at him the whole time.
The things she did to me that night I will never forget.
i think if the Flyers play well in front of Mrazek, the Flyers make the plaoyffs and win a round, you will see him in Philly next season.
Flyers record since 0-5-5 streak is 24-8-3. To the poster who asked what will we say once the Flyers lose, I will say now, it is bound to happen, no way they can keep this pace. I said a week ago that the Flyers will have another bad stretch, all teams do. I just hope it is short and not that bad, more bad puck luck than actually play.

I feel the best parts of this story have been left out.
I am the captain and play for a mens league team, this is our 20th year, I have 8 guys who have been with the team for 10 plus or 15 plus years. This past year my eldest son who is 27 got to play on the team with me. I now coach my 9 year old, hoping the body holds up and the teams keeps going to have my second son play.

That's a pretty good story. It's straight out of a movie or something!
