hitting on mid-1sts and late picks?
very hard to keep up in the long-term. but definitely gave beregeron etc. new life. - Tumbleweed
I'm not saying that it will, but it's tough to say it definitely won't. The second round of 2015 we picked Forsbacka-Karlsson, Brandon Carlo, and Jeremy Lauzon
2016 mid first rounder Charlie McAvoy, late 1st Trent Frederic (hated it at the time looking great now), 2nd Ryan Lindgren, Joona Koppanen, who has played for Finland in the last 2 WJC in the 5th (not saying he's going to light it up but that's a good start for a 5th rouder)
That's very good drafting IMO. Lindgren is going to be a stud. |

Serious question, since Montreal should consider rebuilding, or re-tooling soon..
What do you think it would take to get Jeff Petry and Philip Danault? - PatC80
I don't see the Habs moving either.
Danault is one of the very few actual centres et have and overall he's been very good for us.... add to that that he's a local player.....
As for Petry... I'm guessing he could be traded but he's one of the few who's actually good at moving the puck and has decent skating abilities. Despite a HORRIBLE start to his season(god... he was atrocious... I would have kicked him in the nuts if I saw him on the street), he picked up his game and has been very good since December.
Of course a team could always overpay for either player which would make me say yes but I don't see it. |

We need plekanec as a cheap rental. You can have him back after the playoffs |

then the blueprint is draft gud. most teams don't. it'll be really hard to replicate boston's model for a re-tool. |

Scabbies needs a new turtle neck. That is a non-negotiable piece of the deal.

Petry, has a really good CF%: 52.9 and plays a ton.. That's the kinda D-man we could use and hopefully, would be cheaper than McDonagh/Karlsson/OEL/Doughty |

That I agree with. Whomever is making these draft day decisions in Boston better be under lock and key. It seriously seems like more than luck at this point. I mean who knows, but at least ride the hot hand ffs. |

If they were asking for DeBrusk, Carlo and a 1st how would this be close to getting that deal done? I just don't see it. - RickJames77
Obviuosly it was too much, so they're gonna have to accept less. |

I need to keep my identity a secret. Otherwise people would know that my actual name is Jim Benning and that I am in fact a general manager. |

I understand McDonagh is decent, but ive never considered him anything special TBH. While he would make us better, I just dont see him as a fit. Better to save the prospects and cap space for more impact players.

Soooo....
Bracco, Liljegren and 2018 1st? - Atomic Wedgie
Why do teams give the farm? I mean three potential good pieces? I’d rather get another 3-4 or 5-6 dman and wait till off season for any free agent signings. Liljegren maybe the one who comes up in future to replace gardiner and as far as giving up a first round pick why not trade up in the draft to get into top 10 or top 12 and draft a good piece rather than giving up all these good pieces. I mean Scott Gomez to Montreal to get McDonagh from Montreal (a first round pick? ) and now they want three pieces to go to rags and Gorton in ny? Ain’t gonna happen. If it does I won’t be happy. |

Definetely cheaper than those guys.
But if he's leaving, it's because a young defenseman in the same "style" as Petry that could replace him soon is coming the other way.
Oh what am I saying, that's a smart thing to ask for.... Bergevin would never do this.

Add an overpaid slow stay at home d-man with the brains of a lizard, I'll throw in Elias Petterson, and we'll call it a deal. |

Bracco is garbage. 2 possible NHL players for 1 bonafide top 4 dman who is also a captain. That's not giving the farm at all. |

To be perfectly honest, I don't have a real opinion on McDonagh - so I'm going off of what others say.
And people who I respect say he's a top pairing guy, who also brings a lot of leadership to the table (he's the frickin' captain). And he has also demonstrated great playoff poise.
On paper, that's a great fit for the Leafs this year.
Please keep in mind my offer was not serious - I think it's too low for the Rangers to bite. But OK, here goes:
- I don't think Bracco is ever going to be a top-6 guy in the NHL. So I simply don't care if we lose him or not.
- I'm hoping our 1st this year is bottom 10 - so hurts a little, but not a lot.
- Liljegren (or however the frank you spell it) is a mystery. But it's a risk I would be willing to take. I don't think he will be a true impact player for another 4 years - so I'd rather have McDonagh now, and hope to re-sign him in 18 months.
At the end of the day, this is all a big waste of time - Lou will do what Lou does, probably without even checking this board before making his changes. |
