I really liked Hextall's comments regarding the current group and that they have played really well and deserve a "proven NHL goalie" not some stop gap NHL-AHL tweener. Big (frank)in deal we gave up some draft picks....the Flyers have one of the top rated systems already....Great move and a fair price to pay for the Flyers GM. Yes our new tender can be inconsistent, but there aren't many goalies out there that aren't.
- landros 2

Exactly.

He could have went a little cheaper with guys like Chad Johnson or someone else. but he got a guy that can be a top flight goalie when on.

This really reminds me of the move to get Mason. Get someone while their value is down but could have a solid reward.

Other then maybe Boston right now and Tampa, the east is pretty open. I am not saying they will win the east but they could at least make any playoff match up interesting.

Oh i like the deal.

Young, motivated goalie, who will be the number one for what could be 5 weeks, playing for a team that is in a playoff push. Also the team is trending up and his age could fit perfectly with this team for the future.

I think this could work.

I like the deal and yes, it could work. That said, I see this team as not better off than before Elliot and Neuvirth went down. Mrazek isn't Elliot so they may actually be a little worse off than before Elliot went down and basically the same as before Neuvirth went down. They're still a bubble team and will have to keep playing their butts off to keep a playoff spot.

Do we actually think Mrazek gets the start tonight?

I think so, but I imagine that Bill will have an update after the morning skate.

Which goalie gives them the best chance to win? I think that is Mrazek. Yes, Lyon played well on Sunday but this is not the time to "reward the kid."

My money is on Lyon. Not that it's a long flight or anything for Mrazek, but I'd guess they'd want to give him a full practice with the team tomorrow before starting Thursday. They did decide to swap things and had off yesterday and practice tomorrow right?

With Detroit retaining 50%, I wonder if Hexy retains salary in another trade for someone such as Filp, Lehterä or even Neuvy.

Mrazek got to the ice at 8 am this morning. No practice beyond a morning skate. No time to get on the same page with your d. I think he could be in a worse spot starting tonight than after a practice tomorrow. If lyon struggles you can always put mrazek in after the 1st in relief. Habs have been horrible lately I want mrazek to be ready for Columbus Thursday

From Seravalli:
Most importantly, Mrazek has playoff experience. Elliott has a lot of work to do to recover from core muscle surgery. The oft-injured Neuvirth will be out “weeks,” according to Hextall. And Mrazek’s playoff numbers (.931 save percentage in 10 starts) are significantly better than Elliott's postseason numbers.

I think it was a low risk move that could provide a solid return.

Strict orders to keep the pick going back to DET as a 4th. Haha. Lyon starts 60% of games until Neuvy comes back. Lol.

I was referring to regular season, and 10 playoff starts isn't exactly a large body of work. This season I think Elliot has been better than Mrazek thus my comment that they're not back to square one in the crease. Probably as close as they could get for free though so no complaints here.

That said, I'll take your risk assessment a little further: imho, it's a zero risk move that could provide a solid return.

If this team stays healthy and can improve their PK (whether through trade or internally) and even have a slight improvement over Manning, we can win a playoff series, or two, imo.

Giroux-Couts-Konecny
Lindblom/Weal-Patrick-Voracek
Linblom/Weal-Laughton-Simmonds
Raffl-Filp-Weise/Lehterä

Provorov-Ghost
Hägg-Amac
Wisniewski* - Gudas

Elliot / Mrazek

I would try to dangle Manning for a pick (Kempny got a 3rd). Replace him either with Sanheim or try to sign Wisniewski if he’s still avail.

Tokarski has an equally impressive playoff resume. For reference. But make no mistake about it we improved a need

That is not the way I am looking at it. I was just wondering if he has even been on the ice with the team yet and do you want to get him acclimated first for next game.

No. We're on a playoff run in not selling off players for average picks. Manning is asked to play the pk and a defensive first game. Wisniewski isn't going to fill that role any better. We have plenty of picks. If we change that position it needs to be an upgrade or an internal call up

Mrazek on the ice at 8 am this morning and will be doing morning skate with them. But I agree I think Thursday should be his start

Imho, it's not complicated. Stop the puck, don't do anything fancy (i.e., stick handle behind the net), and keep communication with the defense basic and clear.

I'd rather not retain on Neuvy since he's signed for another year, but it would probably help. Even more so for Lehtera, but if it's only like $1M per, that would be okay with me.
- jmatchett383

Retaining the maximum 50% in a trade is preferable to buying Lehtera out or, worst case scenario, having him on the team again next season.

Wisniewski isn't playing regualary for the US i believe. i think he is a PP specialist for them.

And your not moving manning if your looking to add depth for the playoffs. If anything you bring up Sanheim ro you bring in someone who might be better and Manning moves to a 7th dman. Could you do something like Leier for Oduya?

A strength of mrazek is actually his puck handling.. just saying

I wouldn’t consider moving Manning “selling off players” when it’s one guy who Isn’t even wanted in the lineup. On top of this, he can be replaced with losing nothing: promote internally.

Okay, but that's where communication is very important, so keep it simple. I'd still start him.
