My take on the trade:
If the Flyers make the playoffs and the 4th becomes a 3rd, I'm not worried. Using Mrazek's draft year (2010) as a measuring stick, only 5 of 30 picks have played over 100 games, and only 2 (Gudas and Rust) have over 50 career points, so that likely won't be a huge deal.
If the 3rd then becomes a 2nd, I'm also fine because it means Mrazek is leading us to a Conference Finals berth, and I'd gladly give a 2nd rounder to be assured a trip to the ECF.
Similarly, if we resign him and the other 4th becomes a 3rd, well, see above.
All in all, it's not a bad trade for a young and above average, albeit inconsistent, goalie. |

Nope. The narrative now shifts to "SAINT RONNIE TRADES VALUABLE PICKS FOR CRAPTACULAR GOALIE WHO EVEN A NON PLAYOFF TEAM DOESNT WANT. OMG WTF RAHNOLD HERXTALL WAI YU DO DAT?" - Doc_Sarcasm
That's true. I remember a specific poster pissed off at the Cousins trade solely because we had to include former 6th round pick and likely career ECHL goalie Merrick Madsen. |

I'm still surprised that Tony (whatever happened to "Anthony?") DeAngelo was stupid enough to go with him. - jmatchett383

Like the deal, looking forward to seeing what Mrazek can do. Not concerned a bit with the “attitude” issues, kid was 24 and got a little cocky, stuff happens. From all I’ve been able to find, he’s had no issues re attitude at all this season.
The Flyers landed a 26 year old, very talented goaltender playing for a new deal and out to prove that he can be a top notch #1. In fact, the more I think about the deal, the happier I am with it. - BiggE
Exactly good deal I think as well but MJL will be roasting Hextall this morning for sure. |

I think this board as a whole has an issue.

Detroit could have been considered desperate also as they wanted to get something for a guy they probably weren't giving a QO. - dragonoffrost
They could of. Just feel like for a 26 year old goalie who did show flashes they might have been able to do more.
But I like the deal. And could have future implications too |

I doubt it, too, so they basically got him for free. Well played, Hextall. |

I really liked Hextall's comments regarding the current group and that they have played really well and deserve a "proven NHL goalie" not some stop gap NHL-AHL tweener. Big (frank)in deal we gave up some draft picks....the Flyers have one of the top rated systems already....Great move and a fair price to pay for the Flyers GM. Yes our new tender can be inconsistent, but there aren't many goalies out there that aren't.

Mrazek can be really good, but he's inconsistent.
Neuvirth can also be really good, but he's horribly inconsistent and injury-prone.
Yeah, I like the move. |

what if he comes in and plays lights out ? he wanted to be a starter...well he now has his chance to play for a team that is getting better and has some playoff aspirations. It could be a win win deal for both club and goalie.

I'm fine with the trade. A deep playoff run > a 2nd round pick. His play will determine how I feel about resigning him. |

I love the deal and what it says to the players, coaching staff and fans. Sure they needed a goalie, but they got a talented kid that has something to prove, from a team that wanted to dump him....like a Jay Ajayi move....lol |

Oh i like the deal.
Young, motivated goalie, who will be the number one for what could be 5 weeks, playing for a team that is in a playoff push. Also the team is trending up and his age could fit perfectly with this team for the future.
I think this could work. |

With Detroit retaining 50%, I wonder if Hexy retains salary in another trade for someone such as Filp, Lehterä or even Neuvy. |

I feel bad for Stolarz. This would have been his time to show if he's a capable NHL goalie or not. |

I'd rather not retain on Neuvy since he's signed for another year, but it would probably help. Even more so for Lehtera, but if it's only like $1M per, that would be okay with me. |
