I guess, but I’d rather have the skill. Plus, while they may be young, Provy plays like a vet and both Laughton and Weal have been pros for quite a while. - BiggE
I guess.
I just don't get so caught up in an unit that sees only about 20-30 seconds of PP time.
I might feel different if it was a little more even split. Also it's a top 10 PP right now.
I wonder if next year we see Patrick get some PK time. He seems to be playing both ends of the ice well and is strong on the puck and smart. I wonder if that will be explored.

I would rather we improve our bottom 6 talent so they can successfully kill pks |

So would I.
I think next year you'll see an improvement as you could see guys like Bardreau, Vecchione, Laughton, Lindblom and maybe even a guy like Patrick added to regulars like Couturier, Giroux and Raffl.
Plus you never know if they acquire someone in a move that is a solid PK guy.

Yeah doesn't nak ghoul also play phantoms pk? Just to add some more names. I wish we could trade Weise plus a 4th rounder for a similar contract pk guy |

I think the defensemen have to improve more than the forwards |

Re the Flyers goaltending:
I think Hextall will make a move. He’s not going to take the chance of Neuvy getting hurt a few days after the deadline and having to roll down the stretch with Lyon/Tokarski - BiggE

I really think Anderson and Ottawa work. They are looking to clear money and I don't think it would cost much. Also you could try to get Oduya included and that can add depth to your defense.
My idea is:
To Ottawa: Neuvirth, Filppula, 2018 4th rounder
To Philly: Anderson, Oduya
Anderson does have some term so for the future I see the goalie thing looking like this:
Rest of this season:
18 - Anderson/Elliott(when healthy)
18-19 Anderson/Elliott, Hart in AHL
19-20 Anderson/Hart
20-21 Hart/?

think it takes more as oduya will get a 4/5th on his own imo.
unless a 3rd team wants flip and ottawa gets an extra pick.
unless they flat out want to dump anderson of course that changes things. |

I like the deal. I would try to get Lehtera in that deal instead of Filpulla. Maybe Flyers retain 50% of Lehtera's contract. I think Filppula has some value to the Flyers playing a defensive center role.

I think they would have to give up more than that. Ottawa doesn't have a 2nd round pick this year and could lose their 1st rd (If they don't pick in the top ten it goes to Colorado)

If Anderson didn't have that 3rd year this might interest me but I'd pass because of the term.

I thought that too but I don't see Hart playing 60 games so i think having Anderson gives you a good guy to balance the season with. |

I think you could get a back up or net share guy for a lower cap hit.

Lately that pass isn't there as teams drop low on him. If Gostisbehere keeps shooting it could loosen it up a little. Couturier has scored 27 goals. not sure why you would want to replace the teams leading goal scorer.
I agree I wouldn't mind seeing Laughton on 2nd PP but who do you replace. Lately it's been Patrick, Weal, Konecny, Provorov and Filppula. - J35Bacher
Top PP points -- Jake 29, G 28, Ghost 24, Simmonds 16, Couts 11.
I love Couts, but he's not a great PP player, he's good, not great. Can you say that Couts generates a lot offensive chances on the PP? He's usually the guy who stuffs home a rebound, or redirects a slap pass in the net. He's not the one who is firing a rocket into the back of the net or threading the needle to find someone back door.
That PP is missing an interior shooter. Schenn was probably the best player to play that position as he had a rocket from there. Took him a while to goals from that position, but finally figured it out. |

Really not a fan of Filppula on the pp, nor his late game replacement, Manning. There aren’t many other options, but I think Laughton may be at least a bit of an upgrade over Filppula. He’s stronger on the puck, quicker on his feet and has a better shot. - BiggE
missed saying this after last game...
you have a lead with a PP and you put Manning out there, once again you tell your team to protect the lead and not play their game. |

I agree. Just trade a mid round pick for a generic backup and cross your fingers that Neuvy holds up. If they are looking for a vet to pair with Hart for his first 2 seasons, they could just extend Elliott for 2 years at probably no greater cap hit than he has now. And, since Hart will be on his ELC, the total hit for goalies would be under 4 million for those 2 seasons which is excellent cap management. |

Again, that pass isn't there lately.
If the pass isn't there it, doesn't matter who is in the high slot there.
I think one wrinkle they should use more is sliding Gostisbehere down to the half wall where voracek usually is because I think that shot creates rebounds there with the goalie going from side to side.

True, and if you are going to do that, Manning is probably not the guy you want anyway as he’s been a hot mess defensively the last couple of weeks. |
