Not that Bertuzzi was the sharpest knife either - VanHockeyGuy
True, but Bert is a mean SOB |

He's a scared little boy....plays scared in a league of men. - Bullfrog77

Interesting waiver day: Smith (NYR), Kruger & Jooris (CAR) - VanHockeyGuy
didn't the canucks just call up boucher. |

pretty much. He plays scared half the time. Hopefully he pays close attention to Archie, not that I think he is capable of learning. - CanuckDon
Everyone sh1t on Neely back in the day as well. |

Cam Neely produced in the NHL as an 18 year old and piled up loads of PIMS. JV is a ghost compared to early Cam Neely |

Not a centerman, he can pass just needs confidence, that's his main hurdle which is true for most young guys so lets drag him and bash the frank out of him maybe that will help his confidence - Bettmanhatesus
Don’t be a Richard, Nighty said, “hey, let’s make Jake a C, he’s fast” - discuss. Virtsys biggest drawback is a lack of hockey sense, and the centre position is arguably the most important for high hockey IQ. Of course he can pass the puck, but can he distribute it?
And seriously, nothing any of us write on here is going to affect his confidence, if it does, then the garbage we spew must all be true. |

Is it time to call JV a bust? If so cut your losses and move on. |

Are we really going hold Virtanen to a Cam Neely standard now?

Convert JV to more of a C role.
Example if he plays with Sutter no FO’s but takes over from there. Rather see his speed in open ice to drive the play with Sutter being the black hole he is. The 2 r both good on the back check so taking the puck away from Sutter much more is the idea.
Discuss - Nighthawk
hasn't done anything to earn this, terrible idea. |

It depends on your expectation - if you expect Ovechkin like production, it’s time to move on, but if you expect Torres like production you work with him to round out his game. |

In Utica. - VanHockeyGuy
Honestly, as much as I female dog about the NHL not being a “development” league, this season is toast. Trade Vanek, Granlund, Tanev, Gudbranson, Gagner, Del Zotto, whoever, turn this steaming pile of compost over. Give JV PK and consistent middle 6 minutes. Teach on the fly, and spend a lot of time in the video room with him. |

Nothing's at stake as far as the post season goes. Why not? |

No...its still much too soon for that. But he really should be returned to the AHL now...and if even leave him there all next year as well. I think Jake will start coming around as a player when he's 24 ...25 ish. |

I'd rather him get top 6 minutes in Utica and learn how to help that team win. |

He is a bust for sure. He may still be a useful piece but I am not sure if it's in Vancouver. He probably could use a change of scenery. The hometown distractions probably don't help. |

 - 1970vintage
I don't hold Virtanen to any standard. A Neely comparison was brought up. I think the organization should focus on his best skill which is his speed. Train him to be a force on the PK and play him on the 4th line until he earns a promotion. I don't understand when posters suggest he could be a Raffi Torres comparable. Torres put up a 165 PIMS in the AHL as a 20 year old. Jake doesn't have the mean streak. |

being a 1st round pick, or even a high one, should not make him exempt from spending loads of time in Utica.
Dal Colle, Gauthier, McCarron, Juulsen, Scherbak.
Virtanen does not play 100% of the time. Send him down. I agree 100% |

I remember when Yzerman was getting flack for his handling of the Drouin situation.
He's looking pretty smart right now. - bloatedmosquito
lol...no doubt. Drouin looks pretty average in MTL but not quite the support in Tampa to his credit. Bergevin should have been fired on the spot for the Subban and Sergachev deals. |

NYR trade a 2nd round pick and a 3rd round pick to DET for Brendan Smith
NYR Sign Brendan Smith to a 4 year, 17.4 million dollar contract.
NYR Waive Brendan Smith in year 2 of contract.

Pretty solid line of logic codes. We should try and trade with NYR |
