What would Chris Tanev cost and what would the Leafs be willing to give up? Can a deal be reached because he (in my eyes) is great and would fit perfectly. - steve362
Why the hell would we want him?? Isn't he like Lupul V2.0 and always injured? |

I was thinking Leivo and Soshnikov could get you Mike Green. Two good cost controlled assets for a pending UFA. |

That fact may make him cost a little less. When he is healthy he is very effective. He's not as bad as Lupul injury wise.
He moves the puck well and is solid overall on D. Defends amazingly. he is very mobile and usually makes the safe, smart play with the puck. Oh.. he shoots right! |

(frank) no. JVR is an opportunity to get a 1st round pick or a good prospect. No need to waste it on another pending UFA who is in decline. |

I don't think JVR weakens us really. He's not even on our top two lines. Move Kap up to the 3rd line with Brown and get a stronger 3C. We add a solid dman and a 3C center replacing JVR and Bozak, I don't think that really weakens us much at all and might well spark the PP more too.
Hyman - Matthews - Nylander
Marleau - Kadri - Marner
Kap - ??? - Brown
Komarov - Moore - Martin/Goat/???
Not a huge change but that 3rd line if we get a decent 3C would be fast, and hard to play against. - Roadrunner75
Trade: JVR, Bozak, Komarov, Moore and Polak. Hopefully, if you get lucky, you get two 1st round picks, a 2nd, a 3rd and a 4th round pick. Or top prospects, depending on what team and if they can resign JVR and/or Bozak.
Marleau / Matthews / Nylander
Johnsson / Marner / Brown
Hyman / Kadri / Kapanen
Martin / Gauthier / Leivo
Rielly / Hainsey
Gardiner / Zaitsev

Or keep everybody and Boston wins in 6. Same result but you take home 5 more draft picks or prospects to replace all the promoted Marlies who are going to replace all those guys when they walk as free agents anyway. More experience for young guys, more ice time for young guys. That's development. |

I am one of the very first members of tank nation here.
I can't agree with this sentiment though.
Too much unexpected stuff happens in the playoffs and I think if the Leafs got a bunch of breaks, a la Ottawa last year, they could actually contend.
I know the rebuild isn't done and I am not a JVR or Bozak fan but I think they are good enough, or can be good enough this year that you have to give them every chance.
Moore, Leivo Soshnikov could all go imho. The rest could all be useful pieces in the playoffs. |

I could stomach a JVR move more than a Bozak move at the trade deadline. He'll command a lot more, and we have wingers to spare.
Leivo could slot into the top 9 and not look terrible if we had to; Soshnikov will be ready too and would look fine on the 4th line again, move Brown up.
We don't really have much center depth, and throwing Marner into 2C just in time for the playoffs?
He's a winger; so's Willy. I don't see these guys converting to center anytime soon.
Plus with what they bring, they don't need a playmaking center, just a guy who can win draws and be responsible, like a Hanzal or Bonino. |

If we got Bonino I would totally watch the playoffs through Hockey night in Canada, Punjabi Edition.
I also don't see trading Bozak to be likely anymore. No great replacements. I think we'll keep JVR too. |

Maybe, I just don't want to give anything up for a rental, when I think if we're "going for it" this year, we just stick with what we have. |

How bout this:
Detroit
Levio
Bozak
San Jose 2nd 2018
Leafs 1st 2018 (Swap)
Toronto
M. Green
Detroit 1st 2018 (Swap)
Detroit gains much needed draft pics and NHL ready players
Toronto gains much needed RHD and higher 1st 2018
Plausible

Yes, I'm sure Detroilet would love to potentially give up Dahlin for Bozak and table scraps. Lay off the hooch. |

Leafs aren't contenders this year. Send Bozak and Soshnikov to Penguins for Sheehan and a 2nd. Leafs hold salary. Send Lievo and Rosen to Edmonton for a 2nd and 3rd or a 1st. Get what they can for Moore, Komo and Polak. This gives them assets for going after a top four defenseman or even better a good center at the draft. this leaves a roster of:
Hyman-Matthews-Kapenin
Marleau-Kadri-Marner
JVR-Nylander-Brown (Nylander is a better center than Bozak)
Rychell-Sheehan-???
Martin as a spare
Reilly-Hainsey
Gardner-Zaitsev
Dermott-Carrick
Rotate Borgman, Holl and Lilijgren of the Marlies as spares
This leaves them with flexibility of a spot for whichever guys don't get traded.
I love Komo, Polak, Soshnikov and Lievo so wouldn't be disappointed if a couple of them stay but this is about getting guys experience in the playoffs for next year when they can be true contenders. |

Eaaaasy.. I really don't see the leafs making more than one hockey trade. I think most of what goes down will be minor. I'm more then ready to see JVR dealt and have a feeling breaking Marner away from that line is a prelude to it. |

There's gonna be a lot of disappointed people on here when the deadline comes and goes and lou makes 1 AHL trade for "depth" |

Soshnikov and a 4th rd pick to Arizona for Demers
those moves should help.. - PatC80
(frank) trading Lievo to EDM
Chia is the type of guy to place him next to Mcdavid all 82 games so he can score 20 and finally say he won a trade |

Wonder if the Leafs can do a Lievo for Ryan.
Not sure how Carolina feels about their C depth but getting a good cheap winger for two years is pretty benificial to them |
