The problem is not that ROR and Okposo are so good. The problem is clearly their deals, and if you want to dump their salaries, you're likely taking garbage back on more than a one year deal to make the money work, which means in many ways you're ok with the team sucking for very likely 2 more seasons, unless you think you can magically turn around another teams "dead weight".

See other post. These guys are more replaceable then people realize or care to admit, otherwise why would we be chilling comfortably in 30th?
- Sabresfan-365

I don't think many think ROR and Okposo are irreplaceable.

You seem to take the opinion of a couple and sometimes inflate that to the opinion of many or most.

My favourite is the core players that make up a 30th place team are too good to be moved.

I don't even know what to say to that one. Just accept that the reason they're bad is because of their bottom 6 and coaching?

Youd think if it were that easy to fix it wouldn't take 2 GMs and 2 coaches. Who apparently all suck

- Sabresfan-365

If u take what u just said & apply it to any bad team, then...

Arizona should’ve traded OEL years ago
Edmonton stinks again, who should they dump?

Who do we keep then?
Only Jack?
We are gonna turn over 20 or so guys?
That’s not realistic

We do have some good players
The point is to add to them
1) our “core” needs more support behind them
2) our “core” needs to get more good players added to it

except, like eichel, OEL performed like a core player despite a terrible team.

Edmonton does stink and they should dump a ton of players. Guys signed and traded for to be core guys who really aren't, sound familiar?

Im not saying do it all in the next 2 months, im saying start the process now. Im in it for the long term, not the patch it up and see if we can squeak out 8th place/2nd wildcard spot.

If he was truly offered 2 firsts for a pending UFA, than that's the first unforgivable mistake he's made as a GM.

We aren’t gonna go from 30th directly to Cup contender though

Most likely need to climb into that wild card or 3rd place in our division before we can legit contend

Look at the AVs this year
Or the Leafs last year

The big difference is winning those 1 goal games instead of losing them

ROR who wins all 3 faceoffs late in the game give us a chance to tie & maybe win

Or we can just talk sh!t about the 1 defensive zone faceoff he lost

They're going to have a tough time as they dealt impact players for mediocre to dead weight returns, which is crazy, and good luck getting rid of Lucic.

2019 and 2020 first does not help us for the next 5 years

I would think they could be used as traded chips.

1st rounders are currency. Maybe trade them for a good player in a year or two when we are making a playoff push.

But if we trade away these guys who are just good, and not great...
are we making a playoff push in 2 years?

I don’t think so
Not unless we bring in some more good players

Subtract where it makes sense
Not just for the sake of subtracting bc we are in 30th

Kind of

Do u really think a GM who was on the fence is gonna push up (or drop) the price?

That’s gonna be determined by how many GMs are truly interesting in Kane (or whatever player)

Unless there was 6 GMs bidding on Kane (with serious offers) and now there’s only 1 or 2...
then i could see a drop

Like i said before...

What we end up getting for Kane is more likely to be determined by whether or not guys like Nash & Grabner become available,

than if Kane scores 2 more goals before the deadline or 5 more goals before the deadline

Can they get a decent goal scorer at a cheaper price
That could cause an actual drop in Kane’s value

- jdfitz77

I agree with a lot of what your saying.

I think it's because:

It's a lot of what i was saying for the past month.

But : being hot at the deadline is important.
Playing well and scoring in front of the scouts is part of getting more value

I think at least part of that is coming from the realization it means the team has another 2 seasons after this one before being the start of being good and it's tough with how long they've been bad for.

So let's jump all over jbotts because he may or may not have received an offer for 2 1sts.

Jbotts may have been too busy working on Kane extention?

So is jbotts 1 for 2 on these "deals".

Bad move not taking the 2 1sts

Good move not extending , even though he was trying too?

Love the mitts pick and dumping Ennis and Foligno
Rochester is playing well
Sabres are locking in a top 5 pick

Those are facts

Being hot at the deadline certainly doesn’t hurt...
i just don’t think I’d actually affects the value at the end of the day
At least not as much as many on here are making it seem

And then tend to go over the top

I guess that’s how it is on these type sites though

My response is to Kane and the 2 first round picks
Trade chips

The sabres have some talent coming in.

Mitts
Guhle
Ullmark
Nylander ???
This year's pick

There are 20 guys on the team
6-8 keepers

Eichel
Risto
McCabe
Okposo
Scandella
Antipin
Ror ??
Sam ??
