Note to self. Have a absolute millenial temper tantrum at the canucks summer summit Q&A and become a reliable source for canuck rumors

You’re gonna have to expand on this, it sounds great but how would this work?
- Nucker101

Trading Tanev, for let’s say a 1st and a quality prospect? Seem reasonable? And i’m Talking about this week, not at the deadline.

This one change signals to the rest of the “core” that the team isn’t competitive anymore, and Edler, Sedins, Sutter, Erickson consider their options moving forward. Does Lui really want to be on this team as they hit rock bottom? Maybe he allows a trade to an eastern team, one he has history with. Not a huge return or anything, but out from under that contract (maybe take back something shorter but just as bad). Maybe Edler thinks “hmm, playoffs were fun, and I do like our road trips to Toronto, Tampa etc. Maybe the twins don’t consider a trade, but maybe knowing how bad the team will be they decide not to play another year here, go back to Sweden for their swan song.

Then next year the team can challenge Arizona and Buffalo for the legitimate worst record, with a huge infusion of talent in the prospect pipeline, and be ready to turn the corner in another year or two.

It’s all hypothetical, wishful thinking...

i guess that's fine if you think he re-signs.

if he wants out, you probably get 3 good pieces this year.

next year's tdl return will probably be a 1st, conditional 2nd and a josh leivo type 'prospect'.

- Tumbleweed

Resigning is down the road yet.

I do agree on your take though 👍

1) Loui is a pipe dream, you’re giving up a solid prospect or high pick to unload that contract. No GM is going to give you a shorter cap dump(even for a crappier player) for a longer one unless the Canucks are retaining at least 1M per

2) So you’re trading Edler and Tanev? lol

3) Sedins would probably retire, agree with that.

4) What are the odds you of these events all unfolding? They can’t be much higher than the Canucks playoff odds.

I was listening to sports radio this morning about Bill Belichick and how he trades players before they become declining assets, that's one way the Patriots continually re-tool their team on the fly.

In hockey the MO is to overpay players for what they've done in the past, they were talking about Chicago's overpaid guys like Toews who's now 30 and scheduled to make 10.5 million a year until he's 36.

I’m saying what if Tanev was the thing that held it all together, and after moving him it all unraveled.

Big deal, trading your top 2 d men, full on tank for the remainder of the season - and next...

who cares about draft order at this point. you guys gotta on good one in EP.

based on liljjegren's progression so far with the marlies, it looks like the leafs gotta a good player there too.

he's our top prospect at a position that we are thin at prospects in. he's a non-starter in a trade for most players imo.

- Tumbleweed

I fully expect Liljgren to be in your top4, if players don't make it in the lineup and are sent to a developmental league they are busts around here

So you want to become the Oilers basically.

Where were you defending them back when we all used to laugh at them?
