I think another question is how many guys do you need to shelter them (ie how many can you mentor/develop at the same time)? And how long do you need these guys around for?
My opinion is that with Edler and MDZ around for another year, Stecher entering his 3rd season, Hutton his 4th, and Pouliot his 4th, that Tanev is a luxury and not a necessity. If you need assurances then look at a cheap UFA like Hamhuis who can still fill in for the odd game in a top 4 role. Hell I'd even bring back Sbisa - WhiteLie
Sbisa is due a bigger payday than Gudbranson. |

I wasnt sure, he had a good start to this year but the injury would impact it IMO. Might get a minor bump from his last year
If Sbisa is outside the price range, I'd overpay Jack Johnson on a 1-year deal too. He isnt very good but he can take the tougher assignments if the "kids" still need sheltering |

This is so weird to me. Since when does the other guy have to agree to fight after a semi-cheap shot on a star player?
"Sorry, can't fight I have tape on my hand and will get suspended"
Uh ... tough titties bro ... should have thought of that before you cross checked our star rookie.
Start punching him in the face and he will suddenly agree to go. - whales

He played all 82 last year, his stats show steady improvement logging more and more minutes. I'd be shocked if he didn't to be honest. Ya I'm all for not rushing the young guys, we already have IMO as neither Stetcher or Hutton look to be getting any better to me. But I hope they don't do it with others. |

Watching Barzal highlights just now
Similar style to Johnny Hockey & on the 2nd line at that. One team is a PO team the other in a dogfight to make the PO’s
So going with the above why is NYI struggling? Goalies & D suck
Has to be a big trade opportunity for us.
As for the Flames...
They get every ounce out of their roster.
Still lack secondary scoring though. |

The thing is Edler is either a #2 or a #4 from game to game. MDZ is a #4 or #5, same with Hutton and Pouliot is usually a #5 and shows flashes of a #4. Tanev is always a #2, sometimes looks like a #3. If OJ makes the team next year(Guaranteed if Benning is GM, may start AHL if someone else is) Tanev is an ideal partner for him to learn the NHL game. Heck Tanev is just an ideal partner for a guy like OJ(or even Dahlin). How do you get rid of someone like that unless it is a huge return? |

what a mess - VanHockeyGuy
I see this as a kid on the school ground who opens his lunch box and finds a tuna sandwich on brown bread with crusts, he goes to every kid in the school to try and trade his sandwich, one kid offered him his celery sticks but he doesn't want that, so now the kid has gone to the principle and got him to go on the PA to announce that the kid now wants to keep his sandwich in the hopes he'll get anything better than celery sticks. |

Good article, I like the honesty he portrays.
It was certainly humorous reading the posts tonight, quitting HB because of something team management does that the poster doesn’t like is asinine in my opinion.

The guy is salivating at the thought of sucking for years and then getting his ass kicked in round 1.
“I think this team is headed in the right direction,” he explained. “I saw pretty much the exact same thing in Florida. It took time. But that feeling when we made the playoffs my last year in Florida … it was special to me because we’d gone through the hard times. We really felt we were connected as a group because we’d gone through those tough times. That’s something that can be created here for sure.
“And for me, strangely, that’s an exciting prospect.”
What a loser. |

I wouldn't quit HB, I just wouldn't give a crap about the Canucks. Rugby, F1 testing starts next month and the season the month after, MotoGP also starts in March. Bad management isn't as entertaining anymore, laughing at those waving pom poms on the other hand |

I think this "Tanev is ideal mentor" narrative is silly (because guys can become good without someone like him as a teammate), but even if Tanev really is the ideal partner for OJ, you'll be in tough to find a coach that will deploy the pair in situations that actually benefit them both.
Edler-Stecher looked like they had solid chemistry together, but Edler faces competition Stecher is overwhelmed against, you also cant justify playing Edler 3rd pairing minutes. The same thing would happen in a Tanev-Rookie pairing, one isnt being utilized properly and could have an adverse affect on the entire team IMO |

My goodness you certainly are an interesting individual, I really think you need a reading comprehension course or something similar .
For the record the post stated I found reading the posts humorous, that means funny not mad bro , and the comment was directed at the Don asking if that would be the last straw, funny stuff in my opinion. Not everything is about you and your millennial personality Nuck...err sorry man a fan.
