More @rayferrarotsn on Gudbranson: And it's not his fault. He's a free-agent, he should get what he can. But you're either moving into the future, or you're standing in the same water. And signing Gudbranson is standing in the same water #canucks

So is he talking like someone is going to pay him 2nd pairing money? I feel that Guds will soon come to realize, hes a 3rd pairing and no one is going to pay 2nd for a D who literally cant score. Hes going to be the next Franson and 1 year deals for cheap then.

.@rayferrarotsn on Gudbranson: I don't get it. What exactly are you trying to do? If you need toughness, go sign toughness for $800k. Not a defenseman who's not in your top four and you pay him upwards of $4m. The thought of 5 years at $5m makes me rattle my brain around

You must be forgetting the complaining about having him on the roster, it was similar to Dorsett, but now both are revered as tough guys and missing pieces.

Ya I like Guddy but need to trade him. Don't think we can risk the injuries for the term he will want.

Tanev needs to go.

Now.

2 blogs straight you have said this.
Care to back it up with who or what comes back?

Reports this week OJ benched two games this week. Jon Abbotts said people he knows still say he is at least a year away.

This wont look good on Benning

From Dhaliwal talking to Sami Salo:

"3 weeks travelling to World Junior's effected Olli. He hasn't been as sharp and clear, same thing happened to our other World Junior player."

Just texting with Sami Salo about Olli Juolevi being scratched : "He has had a little tougher time after the World Junior's. We decided to scratch him, he should be back in the lineup tomorrow." #Canucks

Short term contract for EG shouldn’t even be a poll option. He and his agent would be dumbasses for doing that.

He’s not doing that.

What if we sign him 3 years (only 29 when it ends) for 4M.

BUT only if we have a good trade in place for tanev. Grade A D prospect or young NHL’er + a first in 2018.

Then we can sign one of the vets in off season.

Edler - ?
Guddy - ?
MD - ?

? = OJ, new young D from trade tanev, Hutton, stecher, pouliot, holm, UFA that’s cheap and 1-2 years

Use tanev pick for a offensive D in first round.

Interesting read & wish other ppl were more complete when moving out players.
Fire him trade him for.....

Like I said don't trade tanev unless its a deal you cant refuse, in other words an overpayment.
- Bettmanhatesus

I agree except that more likely an offseason move if at all. We cannot trade our most reliable & steady D man just to trade him.

... Lewis was challenged to fight twice and he pussied out. ...
- Nucker101

This is so weird to me. Since when does the other guy have to agree to fight after a semi-cheap shot on a star player?

"Sorry, can't fight I have tape on my hand and will get suspended"

Uh ... tough titties bro ... should have thought of that before you cross checked our star rookie.

Start punching him in the face and he will suddenly agree to go.

Thats where i peg his value.
Its not a stand alone contract either.
What team he is on & how he is deployed.
Payed 4 D money & kills on the PK is his high water mark IMO. Atm i’m not sure how that fits in in the Canucks til other changes occur. TDL & offseason will clarify it more.

And what do you trade Tanev for?

Plus good luck to the young dmen coming through in the near future. Edler and MDZ only have 1 year left on their deals. MDZ is like Gudbranson, he can’t carry a pairing and I doubt he’s still a Canuck after next season. Edler can handle big minutes but he’s declining a little bit every year at this stage.

The broadcast alluded to this last night, but the coaching staff uses Tanev as a dman to help struggling dmen gain back confidence, most recently MDZ. The guy is literally being used as a safety valve and crutch for the entire defense by this coaching staff.

Good luck replacing that.

Edler is also used in a similar way, but he’s not nearly as good at it since he’s inconsistent and prone to mistakes.

- Nucker101

All good points of course. I just think that with his injury history it's too risky. I like the guy I really do but mentoring kids playing 20-50 games per year ain't going to cut it. Do you honestly think Tanev is that important to mentorship considering the D we have coming? It's almost like it needs a full reset post-Edler. If we truly believe Tanev is top 4 then we should be able to get a late 1st for him regardless of injuries. Need to do that now before all we get is a 3rd. IMO anyways.

You know it starts to become a big deal. If OJ develops another year and the person taken immediately after him completes his third year then it is a big deal. Same as Jake , the person taken immediately after him has had very productive years.

As armchair GMs we can add our two cents and be wrong but as a real GM all these wrongs add up and soon as it is time for a new contract , then you are standing there holding your nuts instead of a signed contract.

You just can't keep saying this is fine and that is fine because Canucks are nowhere near fine.

Did you see Chara and Getzlaf last night. That is how you show teams you can't do that

This team signing Gudbranson long term might be the last straw.

I hearya on all of that 👍
My take is the D which i’ve harped on very often is our biggest priority. A remake in some form is mandatory looking to the future. We can only draft our way out IMO

One piece only at say 4.5m is only 5-6% of the cap is highly exagerated. The D corp as a whole is what is our big problem.

Again we are just armchair GMs but Sergachev will have played two years before OJ will have played his first game.

It is ok to take a hunch on a draft pick but if it is the fifth OA you better be ready to pay the price if you are wrong

My line in the sand was signing Lucic.....I'll certainly be disappointed if guddy is signed to a bad deal but at the end of the day he's a sunk cost regardless of what happens.
