Goodbye Mr. Benning
- VanHockeyGuy

prolly.

it'll be interesting if he swallows his pride and gets back a fraction of what he paid or doubles down on his mistake and signs him to a cap anchor contract.

Gudbranson on #Canucks passive response to Lewis hit on Boeser: 'I'm not the only guy that should do it on this team. I think there should have been a pushback. That's something that I bring & had I been on the ice there would have been something done a little differently'

- VanHockeyGuy

Oh (frank) not this poop again.

Lewis was challenged to fight twice and he pussied out.

I guess they could have started to throw more hits and make it a playoff-style game, but I’m guessing that wouldn’t end well for the Canucks versus a heavy Kings team.

Maybe they shouldn’t have passed on Tkachuk in the draft then, the Kings hate playing against that kid.

So what's the overall mood, sign or trade, right now the poll is trade by a measly 3% over short term deal.
- Makita

I picked trade as I dont see him signing a 2 year deal, and not worth risking another 1 year.
I would try and get Schmaltz out of St.Louis and trade Hutton/Guddy this year as well as Vanek. Have Shmaltz fill our 3rd pairing roll. The kid is ready for regular time in the NHL, but the blue's are a strong team so it is hard to crack the roster and stick without a significant injury.

Ya I like Guddy but need to trade him. Don't think we can risk the injuries for the term he will want.

Tanev needs to go.

Now.

- LordHumungous

And what do you trade Tanev for?

Plus good luck to the young dmen coming through in the near future. Edler and MDZ only have 1 year left on their deals. MDZ is like Gudbranson, he can’t carry a pairing and I doubt he’s still a Canuck after next season. Edler can handle big minutes but he’s declining a little bit every year at this stage.

The broadcast alluded to this last night, but the coaching staff uses Tanev as a dman to help struggling dmen gain back confidence, most recently MDZ. The guy is literally being used as a safety valve and crutch for the entire defense by this coaching staff.

Good luck replacing that.

Edler is also used in a similar way, but he’s not nearly as good at it since he’s inconsistent and prone to mistakes.

Short term contract for EG shouldn’t even be a poll option. He and his agent would be dumbasses for doing that.

He’s not doing that.

I like tanev but he is injured a lot and that was the point I was trying to make, no hurry to trade him though.

What if we sign him 3 years (only 29 when it ends) for 4M.

BUT only if we have a good trade in place for tanev. Grade A D prospect or young NHL’er + a first in 2018.

Then we can sign one of the vets in off season.

Edler - ?
Guddy - ?
MD - ?

? = OJ, new young D from trade tanev, Hutton, stecher, pouliot, holm, UFA that’s cheap and 1-2 years

Use tanev pick for a offensive D in first round.

Yeah, he’s injury-prone. But trade him and watch this team become Edmonton 2.0

Edler as your #1 dman, MDZ as your #2 dman. Even if you sign a UFA or re-sign EG that’s still terrible.

Hey kids, go play with these guys and sink or swim. Tanev was the one who brought back Edler from the grave that Torts buried him in lol. The guy was broken until WD put them together.

MDZ is the one being baby sat by Tanev right now lol

Unless you draft a Dahlin, most young dmen need a reliable vet to help them break into this league.

His agent might be over estimating his market value.

I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up as a late signing on a short term deal

Like I said don't trade tanev unless its a deal you cant refuse, in other words an overpayment.

I would rather they walk away from Guddy than pay him 4 million to struggle on the 3rd pair.

I really wish they tried pairing him with Edler to give him the best chance to succeed/increase trade value.

Reports this week OJ benched two games this week. Jon Abbotts said people he knows still say he is at least a year away.

This wont look good on Benning

What is that guys name, Cory or Casey or something. Leafs traded him, the fancy stats bloggers all suggested he was going to blossom, almost every Canuck fan wanted to sign him in the off season. His agent had him hold out for a better deal, and in the end he’s on a one year one million dollar contract with the Hawks. Though, he does have more goals then Duncan Keith.

Oh yeah, Cody fricking Franson 2.0

If true, I’m guessing it’s still his defensive game that needs work. Hopefully he finishes the season strong and puts in the extra hours over the summer.

It’s possible, but this UFA dmen class is terrible so I think he gets paid.

If benning is our GM next season, OJ will be paired with Tanev to help him a long. He also plays on a poopty team, and is not the problem on their defense from what I have read. I am fine with him spending a year in the AHL and being our 1st or second call-up.

.@rayferrarotsn on Gudbranson: I don't get it. What exactly are you trying to do? If you need toughness, go sign toughness for $800k. Not a defenseman who's not in your top four and you pay him upwards of $4m. The thought of 5 years at $5m makes me rattle my brain around
