Well the dike sprung a leak last April and the GM decided the way to plug it and restore it to optimum performance was to first move Hammer and then Panarin. And now its leaking in 3 or 4 places because there is all sorts of inexperience on the roster, an injury to their MVP goalie and a general shortage of talent good enough to compete in the very tough Central. And when the highest paid guys on the roster don't perform to expectations, that spells last place and out of the playoffs.

Q isn't blameless, but in professional sports the architect of any team on the field is its General Manager. He owns the cap issues, bad trades, sacrificed draft picks and poor record at the draft table that have led to this.

- RickJ

Rick, not to get into StanBows success or lack thereof concerning roster moves but Hammer was due a raise, is 30 yrs old and brought back a young cost controlled 1st rd Dman and Panarin would most likely be lost to FA. The Hawks only got out of cap hell since Hossa went LTIR so those two moves are understandable whether right or wrong.

My only point is the further this season goes forward, with the benefit of hindsight, it seems those in charge both on the ice and off have no answers and to a degree don't even have the right questions. And that's not even addressing the coach and GM are rarely on the same page... .......

Rocky needs to address the organIzational and on ice decision making or they will continue on with no answers.

19 and 20 at a combined $17mildo might have a combined 90 pts this year...

no team is going anywhere with that type of production for those $$'s...

these guys are producing like 3-4 mildo players at best....

Are you serious? IS this red font?

Right....it's Kane fault.....all of it. The guy took a hit to make a play and get the puck to Schmaltz and got them the game winning goal against Nashville...Did you see who was on the ice the last 30 seconds in a 1 goal game, on the road? Kane.

My god......get a clue chief.

I don't disagree with everything you say, but you don't seem to ever give credit when credit is due. You're not the least bit objective as far as I can tell.

oh forgot that one...he has been using that for about a month as their game to game up and thud continues....

he certainly doesn't look excited....

they have a team they are chasing for the next two games; once again they face their season...a split does them no good

gotta win both....a double loss...forget about any excitement

kanes has carried this team at times...playing with different guys every night; lugging around hartman or anisimov most nights...

he and craw and the development of cat and smaltz are the only reasons to watch these games...

Forsberg stole the game

One good play does not make up for all the lazy shifts & horrid defensive play

It is a pattern of cherry picking that has cost this less talented team time & time again

In my humble opinion, the loss of Hossa is the single biggest cause of this season's struggles. There is no replacing him.
On the bright side (did not see last night's game), I see guys like Schmaltz, Hino and DeBrincat often back checking. And they better if they want to thrive in the NHL.
Without Hossa, the Stanley Cup puzzle for the Blackhawks is MUCH more challenging. Team top brass is likely realizing this, and we should as well. Getting over the hump will be sweet!

Inconsistent.....the 2017-18 Hawks mantra. 1 step forward and 1 step back....As good as they looked against Nashville, playing with desperation, winning 1 on 1 battles, doing whatever it took to win.....that's how bad they lost last night.

These defensemen who stand right in front of the goalie and don't block the shot are killing this team. Brutal game by the D overall.....Found it hilarious the commentators mentioned the Osterle pass that put Keith "in a bad position" and then I had a flashback to the countless horrible passes he would throw Seabrook with 2 guys bearing down on him over the years......truly remarkable. The talking points have never been more clearer.

They take Eddie O out of the booth and into the studio, and we get a glimpse of national Eddie O....the guy I love to listen to. Brutally honest.....calling out guys, how big a game it was, etc. That's the Eddie O we need, no the Eddie that gets sucked into the Foley @ss kissing, shout out, jovial vortex.

Bottom line....this team just isn't that good. Blame Q, blame Bowman, I blame both....the lineup is hell, and if it's anyone but Wingels on the ice in the 3rd the game probably gets tied at 3, but instead a guy without much offensive skill can't capitalize on a marque chance.

They are older, slower, and they are done.....not mathematically but you can't lose a game like last night.....all it did was neutralize the 2 pts you earned against Nashville, and dropped you further behind. 4 teams behind, and an inconsistent performance each and every night......core guys still aren't showing up enough and I'll say it again.....unless Crawford is 100% there is NO reason to rush the guy back.....you aren't going anywhere.

Oh, and the PP......why the hell they continue to do the drop pass in the neutral zone with then 3/4 other guys standing still at the blue line as 1 guy tries to weave his way in, (rarely happens) or dumps it in and is battling 2-3 guys by himself down low as the other stationary guys have zero jump to help out. It's truly remarkable how bad that set up is......

They have to back check because 88 is out at center ice waiting for the 2 on1 or 3 on 1 break

But those 3 have all done well getting back to help out on defense

He isn't cherry picking.....watch the game. He's helping on D and if he weren't do you think Quenneville would have him on the ice up 1 on the road with 30 seconds left? NO.

Get over the stigma.....he has evolved into a decent 2 way player. He will never be Hossa, but he isn't a huge defensive liability like he was in 2008-09

If you want to get critical and call out stars.....I'd like to 2/7/19/20 all before looking at 88.....Keith has 0 goals.......and is earning 5.5 million. Seabrook can't even tie up a 4th liners stick in front of the net and he's earning 6.875, Saad hasn't done a damn thing in so long I can't even remember the last time he scored a goal or was noticeable the entire goal....he's earning 6 million, and 19 while he had a nice game last night, continues to NOT finish grade A chances.....and he's earning 10.5 million

Oh and this organization continues to cater to 19 by bringing back Saad to help jump start 19, and all it shows is that 19 has truly become an offensive anchor that kills guys....so bad, 20 is now off his line.

Meanwhile Panarin has 13/28 in 50 games compared to Saad's stellar 13/11 in 51 games. But I'm so glad the meatheads go their wish and got dat Russian out of here.......so far that's going very well.......

Kane also has quite a few nights lately where he is completely nonexistent in any aspect of the game. He wanders around the offensive zone and disengages if a play goes poorly and then lazily makes his way back to the bench for a change. This isn't new, it has just been happening less and less as he gets older. He deserves credit for producing when he is, but when he isn't producing, he generally does not contribute much.

You need to get back on your medication.

You are a grade A troll....congrats on that.

BTW genius, you don't get a + on the PP when you score, so yeah.....his 5 points really hampered that PP that night.....and again....it's all Kane.......always.

Go call Les Grobstein and offer Jurco and 3rd round pick for Weber.....sure that will work......

Q puts him out there because he is the King at empty net points

He should NEVER be on the ice with the lead in final 3 minutes of a game

Maybe you should take of the 88 jersey & watch the whole ice. That might help?

If the Hawks somehow traded for Weber, Bowman should be fired on the spot. Lets trade for another guy who has a cap hit of 7.8, will be close to 40 when his deal expires, and is breaking down......geez, where have we seen deals like these before?

This attitude has to stem from an off-ice issue with Kane. I don't recall Gretzky or Lemieux being much on the defensive side of the puck. Kane backchecks way more than they do. Finest mitts I've ever seen. For 4+ decades I didn't have to pay to get in. There were a handful of players I would have paid to watch, and Kane is one of them.

Believe the king of empty net goals this is Toews. Look it up chief.

I don't own an 88 jersey, and I watch and have watched plenty of hockey so I am well aware of away from the puck play....thanks for the tip.

the reason he was a -1 smart ass is that pp goals don't count vs plus/minus...and he got his point on the pp that night...

he plays alot of minutes vs top guys and he is going to be on the ice for 5v5 goals against...

Valid point....and probably right. Probably a Bernstein and goff lover. Guy is one of a kind.

Amazing to me that a guy who never comes close to his own blue line, would earn the trust of a coach who is hell bent on 2 way play by his F, to be on the ice with 30 seconds left in a 1 goal lead on the road vs Nashville. Remarkable.

God I missed this board.......
