Playing down to their competition. Again.
No urgency in their play, so playing from behind and chasing. Again.
Sure doesn’t look like “playoff hockey every night” to me.

Faceoffs are pretty good, but Schmatlz is a joke in the dot. If he can't win more than 30% then he needs to move to wing. |

Glad they are motivated after the goalie gave them a win in the last game. This team is a pure shell of its former self. Anyone thinking otherwise is delusional. - kwolf68
I believe they're motivated, unfortunately just not very good |

In my opinion this teams's PP - or lack thereof - is enough to want to look at another option behind the bench. It just continues to mystify me how this team can have the offensively gifted players they have yet continue to have an unimaginative and uninspired power play. What's worse is the coaching staff, including Mr. HOFer, seem to have a very lackadaisical attitude about it. It's always, "I thought we had some zone time" or "I thought we had some good looks." Vancouver's skill players do not eclipse the Hawks, yet Vancouver is 6th in the league. They now find themselves down 2-1 in a game they should be winning 3-1 with the PP chances they've been given. They continually lose momentum in games because of their brutal PP. If they had any kind of PP at all, they'd probably have at least a half dozen more wins. |

So true.
Tonight’s PP scheme features four fowards with one step too slow Seabrook covering the whole blue line while the forwards play keep away around the perimeter until someone attempts a cross-rink pass that gets intercepted. Lots of zone time but no looks.
A good power play creates looks and rebounds by shooting the damned puck. |

With Panarin we had a better power play which led to the playoffs, then a first round exit, that's all this team would be for the next few years, this forces the Hawks to be realistic of who they are and hopefully build this team back up |

The PP is 5 guys standing stationary. There is no flow or movement of any kind. The opposing team's PK unit just stays in their box and allows the Hawks to pass the puck around the perimeter all they want. They don't have to move or exert any kind of energy. How many times do you see them have 3 guys all withing a couple of feet of each other, which makes it easier for the other team to pressure and clear the puck. Their spacing on the PP is atrocious. Their PP basically consists of two option. Kane trying to make a long cross ice pass for the one timer or going down low to Toews at the goal line, which has never worked. I might be overdramatizing it, but I really belief, if they lose this game, especially after the bit win in Nashville, they are done. Any hope you may have garnered from that game, would be crushed with a loss to a putrid Vancouver team. There is something wrong with this team's leadership when this team looks like a cup contender one night only to turn around and give a lackluster, could give a crap performance the next. They know how critical these games are and they openly talk about it all the time, yet more often then not, the effort is not there.

but this has been the pattern all year...get a minor 3-4 game streak going and then regress...youth, experience, no one knowing their role with Q rolodex line and dman pairings...
that why this team will not put a run together...inconsistency and ongoing defensive woes...not to mention losing craw...but even with him they could not get anything going for more than 2 or 3 games and then give it back... |

These used to be the games and situations where Toews would assert himself. Sadly, I just don't expect anything out of him. Now it's 3-1 with Sedin standing right in front of Forsberg while Keith stands in no mans land just watching him. No heart, no desire, no leadership. Just disgusting. Can't what to hear more of the same BS after the game about how they need to be better, and play with more urgency and blah, blah, blah. |

Aside from Schmaltz's goal, how many tough saves has Markstrom had to make, and that's including the three PP's the Hawks had? One, maybe two?

Thankfully, because then we'd be subjected to another useless PP effort. |
