The maximum bonus he can earn is 850K, so he can only earn another 212.5K
- A_SteamingLombardi

This is all a moot point because the Canucks have a lot of cap space but rookies can actually earn $2.85 million dollars in bonuses according to the CBA, 850K for schedule A bonuses and 2 million for schedule B bonuses. If they're written into their contracts.

Schedule B bonuses are where they can make the real money, for instance, last year Jack Eichel missed out on a 2 million dollar bonus that was written into his contract for finishing top ten in PPG. I think Draisaitl got five points his last game of the season and bumped him out.

Him and his agent probably negotiated that as it was in their mind the easiest to obtain, and he almost did it.

Also, team are allowed to go over the upper cap limit by 7.5% for performance bonuses (bonus cushion). You can defer the bonuses to the following season but that reduces your upper team cap limit.

If the Islanders miss the playoffs I doubt Tavares re-signs with them, Tampa and Toronto are my best guesses.

In eight years (full seasons) with the Islanders they've only made the playoffs three times, that's not really that impressive, at least I wouldn't think he thought so.

So I looked at the Canucks, they've actually made the playoffs eleven times in the sixteen years since the Sedins came into the league, which isn't bad at all.

JB had a good TDL last year, this year it's more of a challenge for him.

He'll get measured on the Gudbranson return, Vanek was essentially a free asset that worked out well.

I hear a 20ish year old prospect for Guddy is the asking price. To me that's a fail.

Vanek, third round pick maybe?

It is a fail, I'll be extremely disappointed if that's the route they take!! They need draft picks not castoffs.

I'd be happy with a third for Vanek but expect a 2nd.

We've all mentally masturbated this all season. One more good draft preferably top 5, and stock those cupboards with D & C.

Late first, early second round picks could work well this draft.

Ive always thought that performance based contracts would be best. Every player gets the same base pay then its all performance based from there. Whatever the performance stats are for your position or type of play.
- SMBDragon

The counter point to this would be that team play would be much more difficult for a coach to instill as individuals would have their own interests ahead of team interests, financially speaking. Seagulls at the redline all game long...

Which is why they need to make sure they manage it this season so their full cap is available next season.
