I'd love to see a 100 million dollar cap so richer teams could get a competitive advantage instead of paying poor teams to compete against them. - LeftCoaster
I'd rather just see the salary cap net of taxes. That would create parity. Well minus the nice weather and golf that the Canadian teams can never compete with.

Eliminate the cap altogether, would naturally get rid of a 'll these poor teams allowing the richer teams to have better quality players, instead of the ahl quality 3rd and 4th liners most teams have to use to top up their lineups.
In the Canucks case, 6 or 7 minor league players, at least.

Then you have the NBA or MLB with only a few competitive teams
Brock Boeser is a modern day Mike Bossy. Once the Canucks get a more skilled younger core surrounding him his offensive numbers will explode. A dynamic player like Pettersson could rocket Boeser to another level.
Are you really enjoying the mediocrity in the league?
This is not parity, mediocrity is at its finest here. - Reubenkincade
It's the players, they get 5-8 year contracts that are guaranteed they don't have to play their best every year, eg. Evander Kane he's playing much better because he's looking for a guaranteed payday and then he will coast for the next few years. Take away the guaranteed contracts and these guys will pick up their game and the entertainment value will increase.

Agreed, cap is needed, otherwise half the league will go bankrupt and lots of issues will happen. Leafs would spend 200m to win the cup and could afford it, while teams like Arizona would be hard pressed to even get a real 1st line together.

The league badly wanted a cap to control cost, yet they did nothing to stop stupid ownership/management from agreeing to the terms of these agreements.
It doesn't matter what these sides agree to, players will want a fair share of revenue and ownership/management will pay them in stupid amounts and the fan will continue to pay the ridiculous prices through tickets, and any other revenue generator.
Why keep subsidizing the weak and why continue with too many teams in a watered down league.

How is gaudettes competition co pare to Brock’s when he was in school? - canucksfan1944
Brock only left college last season, so I doubt the competition has changed either way. The level of play in the NCAA has definitely gotten better over the past 7-8years though.

On the front line of the next battle between owners and the NHLPA is length of contract. NHL pushing for 5. I think 6 would be fair but only a small number of players are signed to contracts longer than 5 and so few more than 6 currently... not sure how much of a compromise it is for either side at 6.

5 or 6 would make sense. I'd say make it 5 for UFA and 6 for players currently with their team.

They can't put together a 1st line under the rules now.
Also the Leafs were spending like crazy before the cap came in and got nowhere.

Soooooo he could be boeser #2 ? No pressure. But he’s got to see all this going on.
