I loved Shaw when he was here, but he is injured prone, salary is to high for Chicago and I would like it if Chicago would stop bringing back ex Hawks. None of them worked out up to date including Saad so far. - scott.jackson

All Star Weekend .I ..Ignore the whole thing . Hope the HAWKS come back with a vengeance make the playoffs and go on a wild run ,I also hope to win the lottery . To be real I still like this team , coach not so much lately .Over the last few years I believe his ego has become inflated ,his indifference to most if not all Stans moves is frustrating . If he wants to be a GM maybe he should be kicked upstairs to see what Stan deals with on a Day to day bases . Don't believe Coach Q would like that much ,he not big on running a hour long practices . Our best move barring a huge Winning streak, would be to make the dive for five Long way to go up or down and short time to get there ,, GO HAWKS (either way ) !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Not only that, but Bowman better wise up and bring in more of the physical players. Top lines need one Each line ideally needs one, not just the fourth line when Hayden Wingels Bouma were enrolled. There should be two large guys, too, so the opponent knows they can be nailed too. - jhawk59
I would love more physical forwards, but as an organization you have to draft best available, period. The big, skate well, skill forwards are desired by every team.
Just think teams passed on Schmaltz, TT, Cat, because of their size and each of them are productive hockey players so far.

Agreed. Hartman is bigger, younger, cheaper, and does not have the injury history Shaw does. Hartman was a key player last season that seemingly has lost his confidence or is going through the so called "sophmore slump". I think he bounces back next year and his next contact will be low AAV after a very subpar year. |

Besides say pitt what other teams that are going to be in playoffs would need a player like AA and what kind of return could the hawks expect in return? |

Honestly, I believe Q is similar to what he's always been, defense first coach. Fancy stats can say Murphy is the Hawks best defenseman, but I watch Murphy without the puck and he's okay not bad but not good in his own end. And some of his pinches are horrible in fact he cost up a game with one of them. 3 things have changed, the roster, the core sucking, and CC's injury. But it's on the coach because he knows how his team needs to play to win a Stanley Cup and won't accept guys not doing their job.
Edit, I'd be okay with a coaching change but imho to say this is all on Q is bull poop.

That's to bad, really curious to see if Toews or Keith would of made team Canada. |

I have to disagree I believe coach Q decision making on roster moves over the last few years have been ego motivated ,tying to show up Stan and the front office . His lack of game planning and ability to adapt to a changing (not for the better ) NHL are becoming more evident every year . Just a small example in OT against TO the other night on the opening face off WTH was that
Like I say hope I am wrong and Q rights the ship . But if not I think he will be out after his year . Team looks confused disinterested and just plain out of it most nights . And that falls on the guy who is paid (top dollars ) to have his team ready and prepared to play every night ,not once in awhile .. |

Anything is possible, but I doubt it. Maybe if Saad brought back a quality top 2 defenseman, however I think the Hawks would want to keep Saad. I think this is just an off season for #20, I’d expect more next summer. |

I’m a big Shaw fan but I agree with you.
Montreal would need to retain 50% of Shaw’s contract to make it worth while it I don’t see the Habs doing that. If Hartman gets moved I’d like to see it be for a defenseman. |

I doubt it, I think he has a lot of nagging injuries, he's taken some
pretty good hit's this year and he's a gamer who trying to play thru
them.
Normally he plays on the PK and I haven't seen him on that unit
any time recently. |

So, I disagree with your selection for the center MVP, JLowe. For me, Toews is our best center bar none in the organization. He has been in his career, and he is this season.
1. Faceoffs
Which player leads the Hawks in faceoffs this season? Toews.
According to Puckbase, he has 1006 this season. The next closest? Anisimov at 545. Adjusted for games played, Toews sits at 20.5 per game and Anisimov sits at 14.0. Last season? Same story. Toews at 21.6 per game and Anisimov at 14.4. Schmaltz? He had 4.5 last season and 9.3 this season on a per game basis.
In the defensive zone?
Last season, Toews had 6.7 per game and Anisimov sits at 3.1. Schmaltz is at 0.6.
This season, Toews at 5.7, Anisimov at 5.2, and Schmaltz at 1.9
2. Brings the best out of his linemates.
Toews makes the players around him better. The graph below is from HockeyViz. Almost every player is noticeably better playing with Toews than without him.

The same can not be said for Schmaltz.
http://hockeyviz.com/fixe...y/1718/CHI/schmani96/wrap
3. He plays against the opponent's better lines
Toews still draws top lines from opposing teams. This is more anecdotal, as I do not know how to prove it. Toews CF% is 58.1% vs Schmaltz at 53.3%
The award is MVP, not MVP per dollar.

AA would be an upgrade over pretty much any 3C besides maybe Bonino in NSH and Henrique/Kesler in ANA. He can slot in at 2C for teams lacking up the middle. He's really the perfect Trade Deadline fit and a MUCH better player than Martin Hanzal who got a 1st round pick + more last year when AZ shipped him out. Capitals are going all in again this year I think and Backstrom, Kuznetsov, Anisimov would be pretty lethal and might even put them over the hump in the East.. |

It really is a disappointment. Olympic Hockey with NHL Players is some of the most entertaining sports competition you will ever see. The Sportsnet guys made a mock Team Canada roster if NHL guys went and they had Toews at 3C, Keith and Crawford as the 3rd goalie behind Price and Holtby.
ESPN had Kane (DUH!) and Saad on the hypothetical Team USA.

You lose me when you say this, why because Q has some agenda besides winning the Stanley Cup? If anything the ego you may believe you see is confidence/ validation that his formula/ style/ brand of hockey wins Stanley Cups with 2 different style teams. It all starts in the defensive zone for Q and he sees past all these fancy stats. I guess we will agree to disagree on this one but if I were running the ship its up to Q if he wants to continue.

Kind of funny that they aren't letting the pros play when Sweden and USA rosters would be much tougher to play against this Olympics

“Obviously, with the talent they have with Kane, Toews, Keith, Seabrook — you don’t want to waste those years,” Letang said. “But sometimes you have to take a step back to see what the problem is, then try to surround those guys with the right players. They’ve got to find a way to be a great team again, because they have too much talent, and that great leadership.”

Thanks for the link, Bogi.
Of course, it’s worth noting that the Penguins, Bruins and Kings all fired their Stanley Cup-winning head coach during those down years — |
