Seen Jacks raise ?

Sam isn't worth 1/2 of that ?
Really ? Specially if he keeps it up.

- cabin

I dont believe he is.
Jack has 49 pts this year, sam has 20.
Sam doesnt push the needle like jack does.
I still contend jack got overpaid at ten million as well (though it doesnt bother me)

Im guessing they'll regret that when he trades RNH for Bogosian
- Sabresfan-365

If he trades RNH,
Chiarelli should probably be fired immediately

I think they could. You'd be looking for the defensive version of him which may actually come cheaper but yeah. They don't come around very often, hopefully they can amass enough assets to be ready for when it happens.

Other than that you're probably looking at high risk high reward trades. Like flipping Reinhart for whatever his defensive equivalent is and hoping that guy figures it out.

Idk if that actually helps us though?
If we’re ready to give up on Sam,
then that’s a trade i could understand

Not for O’Reilly though
He’s a proven commodity & a good player who we have no replacement for (as of now)

Me neither . Still have faith in Sam . Past few games he has seemed like the player we hoped for . Few more games will nail it . I'm hoping for the best

Definitely. Im still holding out hope for him too. Im not calling him a bust yet but i dont think giving him xtra term or xtra dollars is going to help.
If we lowball him, whats the worst that happens? Offer sheet? As a 2nd oa pick with the dollars someone might throw at him the return could be really good. Or you get him on the cheap and make him work for his next contract. A 2yr deal would be ideal imo.

For me personally I think what he'd bring back in a trade would be more valuable to the team going forward than what he's bringing right now. But that's always going to be a matter of dispute here.

Klefbom, Nurse > anyone on the sabres right now
- Sabresfan-365

They're so good, yet have allowed only 6 less goals in the same amount of games and we have a ton of empty net goals against too.

Caveat this opinion with I know, I know: O'Reilly, Reinhart, and Okposo are nothing special, but if Buffalo can add Mittlestadt and one of Zadina or Svechnikov, the top 6 would be in very good shape, no?
- kingcong39

Yes. Still think speed is key though

You have

Okposo, Sam and ROR who are on the average to slower side

The only reason Baptiste scored that goal is because he's fast.

One slower guy per line isn't a huge issue.

If your 1st, 3rd, and 4th lines can fly, you can maybe get away with a line that can't? Or you have an element of speed on each of the top 2 lines.

That if they're so much better than anyone on the Sabres they should allow a lot less goals. Pretty straightforward. Especially if Lehner is below replacement level like so many say.

But they’ve been able to be successful despite not being fast skaters

It’s not like they’re Luke Adam or Mancari

I understand wanting to get faster...
but that doesn’t mean we should want Brian Holzinger over Michael Peca

5v5 points

Nurse+klefbom=21, Risto and Scandella=14

5v5 goal differential

nurse+klefbom=even, Risto, Scandella= -15

The kicker is that klefbom is having a down year. at his best hes a very good 5v5 puck mover and decent defender.

Neither points scored nor goal differential measures defensive ability.

Goals allowed does.

I'm not saying they have bad numbers, but at what point does it actually make a difference?

Process is great, but you also need results.

The Canes are a perfect example of this. Phenomenal possession stats, yet they're always drafting high.

Eh. That’s where the “5 man unit “ comes into play

I know, I was making a separate point. Probably should've been more clear.
