If he keeps up a similar pace to finish the last 10 games of his season then he’s looking like pretty much a lock to be a future impact player. Every player on that list produced as a top line NHL’er in their prime.

Feels good man.

He won't catch Kent Nilsson but could bump Forsberg down to 3rd. Won't mean he projects to be as dominant as Forsberg was though. That guy was able to play a brute game or skill game equally well. That's the type of player you need nowadays for playoff success.

No doubt. Back when I was a kid the NHL Network always replayed memorable playoff series during the summer. I loved watching Forsberg play whenever the Avs were featured. He and Bure have to be two of my favs of all time.

Just a beast of a player.

From a business perspective I think its a smart move; not going head to head vs NFL, and then their hardline on anthem standing and convicts (so no Manziel) will take some of those NFL boycotters.

I barely watch NFL as it is, so I wont watch, but McMahon is striking while the frustration with the NFL is running high, so I am sure he'll do well

- WhiteLie

It's not starting until 2020 though, so will the frustration still be there in 2+ years? I'm sure he's going to get a lot of press and support now, but the cultural attention span isn't that great. I'm sure there will be some other things to occupy our thoughts, especially (for said Americans) in an election year.

Calgary-Edmonton battles from the 80's were always great to re-watch. Not sure we'll ever see playoff hockey like that again...

I'm waiting for Brooks Light to endorse the story first.

The Headline should be....
"Brendan Gaunce: can’t create a scoring chance to save his life"

although this line is hilarious:

He has only been on the ice for 31 offensive zone faceoffs.
“That many?” Gaunce exclaims

You might be more in touch with the culture than I, but I imagine there will still be kneelers during the anthem and confusion over whats a catch, illegal hits, etc. that will have people counting down until McMahon's "simpler" football comes along

Manziel hasn't ever been convicted of anything, so doesn't actually fit the description of convict.

Forsbergs style was reckless tho - he only played one full season out of 12 and his career ended way too early bcus of it.

The dude missed over 300 games! His dominance/numbers would have been even that much more incredible.

The only deodorant and cologne I use is the sweet smell of manly sweat. Chicks love it and the beta latte drinking hipsters in starbucks tremble in fear when they smell it.

Thats a very odd stat for him to lead the league in Dzone faceoffs. Normally most pathetic 4th liners get the easier starts and play against the worst competition.

From ESPN: "You want someone who does not have any criminality associated whatsoever with them. Even if you have a DUI you will not play in the XFL," McMahon told reporters.

I think thats why the assumption is Manziel wouldnt be eligible, but long way off

McMahon will do anything to sell tickets, I guarantee you that. Tebow and Manziel would do that for him. He'll probably not test for steroids and throw some of his wrestlers in there. The guy isn't really known for his integrity.

Back when I was a kid the NHL Network was more of an interactive multi-dimensional outdoor fantasy road hockey experience.

I like Gaunce. The scoring will come, he scored at a good clip in Utica surprised it hasnt translated as well. He will never be a great scorer but defensive specialist that can chip in with 10 goals a season. Solid 4th liner is fine.

As much as getting assets for EG sounds good idk now after BB was nailed if its going to happen nor should it. The league is getting away from grit & enforcing to the point too many liberties are occurring whether intentional or not. Without sufficient deterrents & the league unable to remedy it through suspensions nor other means i think its time they do as Cherry says & remove the instigator penalty. Why i say this is the hits themselves are an instigation that goes without accountability. Nobody wants to take the 2min penalty & game misconduct to get even. Something has to be done eventually or more injuries will pile up sooner or later. Not that BB turtled & left himself open but too often many players put themselves at risk for these types of hits.

IMO Forsberg did it all & its hard to say many players had his tool kit. Therefore i to think of him as one of the greatest ever.

Sutter being injured skewed Dzone FO totals. Dzone FO’s is winning puck possesion 1st then a quick change as needed.
