we didn't trade for marleau. we waited for free agency.
it's all moot. keith needs to want to be traded to toronto.
he's staying with you guys. - Tumbleweed
Toronto Man, in no way am I trying to trade you Keith. In no way am I trying to extract TOR's next 25 yrs of 1st round picks. In no way am I trying to compare who is worth what or go back 15 yrs and 37 posts to try and show you you're wrong that Keith is worth Matthews.
Just a question, and feel free not to answer, did the Leafs think they are close, maybe this yr, in giving 38 yr old Marleau 6+ mil per for 3 yrs?

Sorry to interrupt. Babcock has always loved Marleau's game and his skating and I'm sure had a lot of influence in the decision to sign him. Also, coached him with Team Canada a few times and the Sharks knocked the Red Wings out of the playoffs a couple of times when Babcock was in Detroit watching it.
He's helpful in that kiddie dressing room. But a big ticket for a 38 year old winger. And that might be some of JVR's money he took. |

You ain't interrupting. In fact IIRC you corrected me last yr that Marleau was indeed playing solid hockey when I thought he wasn't. Helluva player and checked a lot of boxes for TOR.
My question about the Leafs is do they think they can win it all this yr? Simple as that. I think the Marleau signing says yes, especially at the hit and term. ... And if so they would seem willing to add to make their chances better.

I doubt the Leafs are under any illusions that their defence group is good enough to get them past more than one round. That's why I think they badly want to add behind the blue line. Fast, skilled forwards are great to have in season, but the playoffs dictate the more good defenceman a team has, the farther it goes.
I like their team but I don't see them as being any better than about the 6 or 7th best team in the East, middle of the pack overall in the NHL. Might be a track meet tonight with a lot of goals.

I think they're willing to add, and potentially big.
But if we're shooting our load on a trade, it better be for a top pairing dman under 26 yerars old. |

I'd love to see Keith have a 5 point night and leave Babcock drooling for a trade. |

I have made my thoughts very clear on coach Q recently ,I do respect what he has done for this team ,it is unequaled in HAWKS history . But as they like to say coaches are hired to be fired , and unfortunately I don't see this team turning it around till that day comes .
As for tonight game I work with a bunch of leaf lovers , so GO HAWKS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Exactly. ...we've all been calling for that 2 men behind the net scheme for years. 1 pass to Seabs sneaking in and BANG. Something new....hallelujah !!!
Toews looks like he's playing with a broom in his hands again.....sore back or not, what's happened to his hands ?????
