It's good relative to eating cardboard.
Rosati's was my pick in the suburbs and Michael's Pizza in Uptown on Broadway was my go-to when I lived downtown. - EnzoD
There are some good places for thin crust up here but in Chicago it was Piece...for me anyway, I lived in East Village. |

Never lived in Chicago, but have eaten pizza there hundreds of time while visiting family. My favorite was this thin crust from a little mom and pop shop about a mile away from Wrigley, but I'm not sure of the name of the place (they've closed, and I haven't been there since my uncle died almost 20 years ago). Chain-wise, I like Lou's.
I lived in the Phoenix area for 11 years, and they had Rosati's. By far my favorite pizza there. |

Duclair looked much more confident tonight, has a really long reach with the puck kind of like voracek. I’ve also never heard more ‘taken by Kane’ calls than in the last couple. He’s really started dominating both ends.
82 is great at finding shooting lanes but terrible at managing the crease/slot. Forsberg gave me way less heart attacks than glass. Doesn’t stack the pads at the first sign of trouble.
Hardly noticed sharp missing. Sharp only succeeds if he’s shooting frequently, and he rarely does that. |

it will be upto him but sharp could be TDL fodder for a bag without the pucks! |

No one would want him and seriously for what?
He just takes away a roster spot for someone who is more deserving of playing time.
Would have been a great story just not meant to be. He is a shell of his former self.
Still I appreciate all that he has done one of the best trades for Chicago going back years ago and for literally next to nothing. |

Saad/Schmaltz/Kane with 3 shots combined and no points, Schmaltz with an anemic performance at the dot. Garbage as all that was, the Hawks need to let that line marinate. Appears the 19/91/12 line has something to offer, Toews was much better last night than his dreadful game against Toronto.
Glad we're down than 1 extra D-man, Q doesn't screw with the lineup as much. Connor Murphy has not deserved to be in the press box since earlier in the season, and he's playing well, has been for some time.

Well said he has been one of few that has improved with each game not to mention the only one that provides some physicality. |

BG-I was VERY down on Murphy earlier in the season, even opining how sloppy he played in a Hawks pre-season scrimmage. He hit the ice in October and looked like a real suspect player, but man he has really steadied his game and has gained so much confidence. I was very disappointed Q jerked him back to the box the couple times he did as I saw no reason as the kid was coming along. Now that Q has one less tinker toy to play with it appears Murph is now solid in the lineup as he deserves to be. And you are right he plays with a bit of an edge. With Hayden on the farm, Bouma now taking up residence in the press box, the hawks really have no one other than Murphy (Wingels will but I suspect Q will press box him for Sharp next game, because Q is gonna Q) who throws the body at this point. Very happy with this kid.... |

After watching last nights game and enjoying the scoring I realized what the Hawks need to improve. ITs not a replacing any player or GM.
Its a friggen passing coach. Every one of those back passes are now sniffed out by the defenders, twice a player forchecking drifted back and nearly intercepted the dumb pass.
Soft passes, especially in zone the defenders are trying to pass the puck 3 feet to a covered defender - turnover city.
Outlet passes - does anyone recall earlier in 2's career he would fling an outlet pass in to danger areas. The entire D seems to have picked up that wonderful habit
Passing to Kane - it seems on zone entry especially 8 will try to force a pass to Kane even if three guys are hanging on him (as I would do) resulting in a turnover.
Get a passing coach, reteach tape to tape an stop the dumb passes. Also, move Kane out to the blueline post zone entry, let him beavertail his stick into the ice until it shatters. He will draw defenders opening up the entire O zone. Just ignore him and attack. I know this is over simplification, however the game is about creating space, trying to squeeze the puck through 2 defenders in a 10 foot radius does not work. Once teams get wind that Kane is no longer considered the only option on every entry they may drop off him a bit again. Just my $0.02 |

Where was THIS team the last time they played Detroit? A game like that would have been really nice heading into their bye week. |

I was shocked at Keith the first minute into the game. He laid AA out with a nice shoulder hit. |

In days of yesteryear these are the games the Hawks would win w/regularity,
today's team loses them with regularity. And criticizing their play is know taboo?
I'd do the same with any other team in Chicago.
Keith had a miserable game, even Seabs has played better since his benching
maybe 2 need's a benching, is it really going to change the seasons outcome?
Maybe it's the stadium, you don't have the same fans of yesteryear, today's
fans are there to be seen rather than to see, but I'll leave that for other. - gazza53
Criticizing their play is 100% acceptable and should be done. The constant repetition of "he's done, trade him" though is pretty ridiculous. It's been half a bad season where every player has had good and bad games. Dumping a guy and blaming him for the team struggling is a stupid idea. Guys age, new guys have to adapt. The team is capable of putting up a great game, they just aren't consistent. Giv ethe new guys a year or 2 before trying to dump off guys who just barely turned 30 calling them "done/"
That last sentence is very silly. |

It was certainly nice to have an outcome like this...let's wait and see if they can do it again. The Hawks followed up a solid games games against Ottawa and Winnipeg with a couple of poor efforts. I'm not saying they'll do that now, but they don't have the benefit of the doubt anymore.
The 12-19-91 combo seemed to work out well, hopefully the continue to enjoy some level of success. |

Consistency has certainly not been their strong point. It would be nice to get on a big roll right now. They need it if the playoffs are even to be sniffed. |

well they have the preds next...a team that knows how to play them and has beaten them 6 strt in regulation the only win was a 2-1 OT at the beginning of the year...
preds are winning and playing well 7-1-2 in last 10 and 16-4-2 at home. Will need a great effort to beat'em

On the offensive side, looking ahead to next year, and without starting a total rebuild, from the lines last night we have:
Alex DeBrincat – Jonathan Toews – Anthony Duclair (RFA)
Brandon Saad – Nick Schmaltz – Patrick Kane
Tommy Wingels (UFA) – Artem Anisimov – Ryan Hartman (RFA)
Tomas Jurco (RFA) – David Kampf – Vince Hinostroza (RFA)
So which RFA's are worth signing?
Duclair and maybe Vinnie? |

Why not all? none of them are really lighting it up, and although Hartman has the 20 goal type potential, he only sniffed it last season and doesn't seem like he's going to get it this season.
I don't think any of them would require any significant bridge deals or anything like that |

One of these weeks and as late as the day after the trade deadline I would hypothesize that you - Justin - might figure a timely blog is due about Q and or Bowman's tenure beyond the end of our season. I would enjoy the discussion about the culpability of the coaching. This includes game preparation, silly drop passes, and the systems Q uses. I do not believe Samuelson has blame for the execution of what he teaches. Players need experience and they need a veteran in defense pairs. The team needs sand and grit, some size plus better utilization talent in line combinations. I can just mention the "pp" and we all know this also is a frustrating issue. |

I would sign all the RFAs, they are assets and there's no reason to lose them for nothing. Hartman may be a streaky forward, but I want him on the team, I think he's a very good third line utility winger.
I would see our lines next year as:
DeBrincat - Toews - Duclair
Saad - Schmaltz - Kane
Sikura - Anisimov - Hartman
Hinostroza - Kampf - Hayden
Kero, Jurco
These lines have some decent promise, the bigger and more pressing matter is the defense.
Keith - Oesterle
Forsling - Seabrook
Gustafsson - Murphy
I'd really like to see upgrades over Gustafsson and Oesterle.

When is the last time a big, gritty team won the cup? - JRoenick97
That is going farher than I intended with my comments. Not that it isn't a valid point. My observation is merely that we need many players who to some extent will battle for pucks and throw s check. And at least a few who will stick up for teamattes or whack someone if the other team is doing likewise. I am not into the Broad Street Bullies dogma but I do subscribe to being able to live up to this: when the going gets tough, the tough are going to bring it. I am not in revelry mood but i do appreciate when I see players trying hard, being responsible well rounded players. |
