Tavares is gonna sign for big $$$ no matter where he goes

If he’s gonna stay...
I’m sure he’d want MORE good players on the team

Common sense

Are you getting dizzy yet spinning all these circles?

If we could acquire Kane, a top 4, 3rd line center, and a goaltender I'm all for it but in what world does that happen? A top 6 fwd is at the very bottom of our needs list. It actually doesn't even make the list we simply don't need one. Our 1st and 2nd lines are pretty awesome the rest if the team blows
- Cptmjl

Well Kane is available
U could acquire Kane, then sign him & Bailey

Then flip other forward depth for an impact defenseman

Win-win for u guys

If u can just take what you’d trade for Kane to get that defenseman...
then obviously that would make more sense

But u might not be able to do that before the season ends

What you’re saying is that Tavares will stay bc of the 8th year

I’m saying it’ll take more than that

Either he will want NyI to get more good players
Or he will leave to play somewhere he can win... AND make big $$$

In my estimation $100M is a very bold move.
- TheHank

100mil to play on a fringe playoff team for 8 years

Or

88mil to play on a team that’s already good & has a legit shot at the Cup with Tavares

Plus, what would he make in the 8th year with a new team?
Let’s just say it’s 6mil

So then gives up 6mil TOTAL...
over 8 years...
for a better chance at winning

No brainer

I guarantee Tavares wants to win

U don’t think he does?
U think all he cares about is what works out to be an extra 750k a year?
No way dude
No way

You keep reverting back to this big money argument. Im calling b.s.
There isnt a team that can give him as much as the isles can. $10-15M isnt nothing, it is in itself big money. In the end, it is still a job. If i didnt take a new job doing the same thing im doing right now and turned down $10M you would call me crazy. I would be crazy.

In that case its still $6-12 million dollars. No brainer.

It’s whatever less he might not get in that 8th year

You’re acting like winning doesn’t matter

You cant control or predict winning especially over the course of 8 years.
You can absolutely control a guaranteed contract.
Nobody really knows how good any team is going to be after a year or two.
One does know how much money theyre going to make in the nhl.
In the end its millions of dollars.
Money talks. Youre telling me im wrong about that and i cant see how.

Ok...
If it’s ONLY about $$$$

Then why hasn’t he signed yet?

Obviously bc there’s other factors
“Winning” seems like a pretty damn logical one

If Tavares was willing to sign for $100mil,
the Isles would’ve already had that deal done

Ok youre right.
He should go sign a one year deal at veteran minimum with pittsburgh or tampa.

That’s beyond stupid

If it’s all about $$$$

THEN WHY ISN’T HE SIGNED YET?

answer that

Bringing in a good player is unrealistic?

I don’t think so

Maybe it wouldn’t be enough to convince him...
but how does it hurt?

They might as well go for it
Bc if they don’t, he’s probably gone

Not saying it has to be Kane...
but someone
Probably more than 1 someone

- jdfitz77

It's unrealistic to fill our important needs and use assets to get them and have enough assets to get Kane to fill a need that really doesn't need to be filled. Pretty simple

What have they offered?
Answer that.
If their offer is coming in at 9 and he thinks he will get 12 why would he sign?
Answer that too.

So if u can’t trade for a good defenseman or good starting goalie...

U think u should do nothing?
And Tavares will re-sign if that’s the approach?

If that what the Isles do...
i think he’s gone

It means a ton but JT knows Kane isn't what we need to win. Anyone who watches this team knows it's defense and goaltending. We're the number 2 scoring team in the league while giving the most goals against up. With that you get scoring or use your assets to fix your defense?

So you think the Isles are lowballing him right now then?
They’re gonna risk pissing him off so that he just walks?

No freaking way

NOWHERE has it been reported that there’s an impass over $$$

Our focus should be defense and will or should i say should be for our moron GM. We have two 1st, two 2nds, and some pretty good defensive prospects. I think you're splitting hairs saying IF we can't defensive help why wouldn't you want Kane. Honestly I say Snow does nothing due to him being a stubborn idiot and JT bolts for nothing. That's my honest feeling on the whole thing.

I agree it makes more sense to get defense
I’ve said that repeatedly

But what do u do if u can’t trade for an impact defenseman?

Also...
can u please tell Hank that $$$ is NOT the issue with Tavares re-signing?

I’m not even saying Kane necessarily
I just think I’m the end Snow will try to make whatever trades he can to bring in good players to help convince JT

I think we are at an impass here.
I really dont care what he does.
You make it sound like teams that are set up to win now all just have an extra 10-12M under the cap laying around.
I said 100M should do it and you are making it sound like nonsense.

No I’m not
You’re saying all that matters is $$$ is what’s nonsense

There’s no freaking way NyI is lowballing JT

They know what it’ll take to sign him
And they’d do it in a heartbeat if he was ready to sign there
There’s ZERO evidence that $$$ is the issue

Therefore...
it’s logical & reasonable to say there’s something besides JUST the $$$ that is influencing JTs decision to stay or go

Fair enough

Is there any impass over $$$ or would JT be signed by now for 100mil or whatever?

Why isn’t JT signed yet?

I think he was waiting to see what the islanders were doing arena wise and talent-wise. I think there a good chance he resigns like stamkos

He very well might re-sign still

But if it was all about the $$$ like Hank says,
Then he’d already have signed
