I hear it's neck and neck between Linden and Gilman for the GM job. Been wondering why Gilman has been circling over the crime scene.

- boonerbuck

Gilman's been pretty tame about any criticisms for this regime. A couple of very subtle jabs, but that's about it.

I mean Linden/Benning did fire the guy

They need more high paid 38 year olds... would the Sedins go to Toronto in a few weeks? They could mentor Marleau...

Except Sundin refused the trade, became a UFA, and then waited half a season to collect 5million for the second half of the season. Same same but different.

I’m convinced that no group on here wants to win a cup. Each of us is happier with the misery this team provides than the risk of them winning in a way that we don’t approve of...

biggest issue is if you let Henrik walk you're left with this at C:

1. Horvat
2. Sutter
3. Gaudette?
4. Dowd?

1) You don't want young wingers with offensive promise playing with Sutter. He's not a 2nd line center or a PP player.

2) You're banking on Gaudette being NHL-ready for top 9 minutes and getting signed. I'm as high as anyone else on him, but I doubt Green/Benning feel comfortable with this.

3) You're a significant Horvat or Sutter injury away from another tank. Sutter hasn't actually stayed healthy as a Canuck.

4) Most of the UFA centers are old geezers like Henrik and/or guys that will command multi-year contracts with decent $$$.

5) Gagner sucks at C, outside of that one big game with Boeser/Vanek, he's been ass as a center.

Ideally you can sign a guy like Stastny or to a 2 year deal or something, but why would he come here? And he'd likely want a full NTC to get convinced.

I disagree, this post is far to logical/ rational and common sensical to be agreed upon by those who reside here. Soft flag.

I think Hobey Baker finalist will do just fine next year like those before him will make the Canucks . I do believe we do need a 4 th line center that is why I am hoping for slow Nolan who will at least bang people. I think a short term 3x3.5 for Maroon will be ok as a third line guy .

Great, I think pencillng in unproven rookies into roles on an NHL team is a great way to build character and develop them.

It also allows you to plug in a veteran that you didn't sign just in case things don't turn out optimally.

If I was a gm of an nhl team I'd be sure to paint myself into a corner to ensure that a player has no choice but to succeed in the position i want him to succeed in. Rationality and facts be damned!

News flash . Canucks are a horrible team too even with the mentorship

Did you read the part where i said to not compare 3 years of being horrible to 10 years of being horrible. If you want ten years then by all means let's follow the buffalo or Edmonton model.

What if Guadette doesn't work out next year as 3lc?

Bo, Sutter, Guadette, Dowd

Turns into

Bo, Sutter, Dowd, Chaput
?

That is my number 1 reason to sign hank

Everyone wants them to win, we've just been watching the franchise being mismanaged for so long chaos seems to be the norm.

I’m not convinced. I think being a Canuck fan implies a certain degree of masochisme

Every losing franchise says the same things we do, it's the norm to be pissed off with never having won the ultimate prize even if you've been a very successful/winning club.

I'm not as pissed about the Canucks past 30 years as most. I moved from Toronto. Imagine if I'd stayed and had their playoff success for my entire 47 years. I at least got in 2 SCF here. For me, it could have been a lot worse than you guys who grew up here.

I'm nowhere near satisfied of course. I still hunger for a cup like the rest.
