Holland did leave the club in a bit of a mess yes...but three cups in 18 years in DET, if we had that here I honestly would not give a shat what state the team was in presently.

He will leave Detroit in the same shape Gillis left Vancouver.

Detroit is in much better shape now than we were in 2014.

Decisions arent made in a vacuum though. I hate having to defend these guys but the reality of the situation was they were coming off the luongo fiasco that dragged for years.

It can be argued that allowing that situation to fester really destroyed the team and ultimately set back the rebuild.

A new regime (which TL and JB were at thr time)is not going to come in and keep a volatile situation in the dressing room coming off the organization's recent history.

And if we would have had that cup in 2011 no one would really give a rats ass what state the team was in post-Gillis...maybe after a time sure but winning is winning. Say what you want about Holland and many can claim he was gifted a pretty good team, but he still made plenty of moves and drafting to keep that club winning. One could argue the state he left DET in but the hardware speaks for itself.

We could have got different pieces back though instead they tried to make the playoffs. If we got that 1st and Theodore back who much different would things be right now.

Slow down stringerbell.
We should have traded the twins and kesler at the 2011 deadline. They were peak players on the best team in the nhl. We could have got a hold mine for them.
Instead we lost a game seven
I blame Gillis for not seeing the future.
