Does anyone think the time to move Edler might be the draft? If you let him know that you wont be signing him again it would you give you time to work out a sign and trade type deal similar to burrows. Let the player work out an extension with a team of his choosing. - mauryballstein

Cannot get into Trees head. Thats not on JB unless u say he has no talent.
Lind was a good pick.
Idk what Cassels has to do with anything? - Nighthawk
Cassels was the next sure thing third line center for the Canucks on Hockey Buzz in this thread. Same as people here anointing these prospects now. I was the king of anointing the next great prospect on these threads . I learned very few pan out to be NHLers. So until they make the team temper your expectations. |

He kind of screwed himself playing through an injury trying to stop mcloser, missed a year of development then got concussed. His skating is an issue but he is improving from all accounts. |

I doubt he ever becomes an NHL player . Every year he falls further on the depth charts |

East coast is saturated . Bettman is like Horace Greeley (Go West Young Man) he wants to conquer the west now. He will gift Vegas Seattle and Vancouver the Stanley Cup to expand the NHL . - VANTEL

2 G 7 A in 27 games. I feel if he doesn't make the team this summer then he is too far gone . |

Have a better than average track record at the draft
BEST IN TEAM HISTORY
Make trades that help the team improve long term
HAS NOT HURT THE TEAM
Sign players to contracts that do not handcuff the team
DEFINE HANDCUFF?
Build towards a strong future...accepting near term pain...on the ice, front office, farm
WHAT HAS THE PAST 3 SEASONS BEEN?
Be credible when speaking with the fans & media (do not be Elmer Fudd)
IRRELEVANT TO DO THE JOB
He's obviously had hits & misses against my criteria so far. I'd give him a C+, trending better. If someone "better" were available, I'd take it, but I don't think Jim is an utter failure and should be summarily fired.

I'm not advocating to fire Jim and I expect him to be resigned for 3-4 more years. I do think checking to see who else might be available is simply prudent, rather than rushing to resign him. I don't have an obviously better GM candidate for the next phase in the rebuild in mind who I know is available -- that is one of Trevor's two most critical functions (the other being to manage ownership)
As for your other comments, I mostly agree.
* I do think the credibility of an organization (and therefore the ability to attract talent than is NOT drafted; keep fans engaged; keep the media away from the rabid attack savagery that creates negative sentiment) is absolutely impacted by how the GM presents themselves. Jim is not great at this aspect.
* by handcuff I mean overpay in term, or overpay in conditions (LNMC, NMC, NTC). At some point, cap management will also be important, but not for the next few years. Eriksson seems the closest example of a handcuff agreement signed by Jim. |

Beat down on Bay St, 7-1 Canucks (Marky gives up a softie in the first minute then locks it down). D.Sedin and Vanek both with a hat trick, Boeser with the other to go along with 5 assists. Goldobin fights Kadri and pokes one of his eyes right out of his head, Kill Bill style. PP goes 5 for 6.

Agree on the handcuff thing. It is my opinion that the strategy should have been overpay in dollars on 1 year deals, allowing the team to trade at the deadline, retaining salary if required to make the deal. If you are going to spend to the cap and be this bad there has to be a benefit at the end of the season (extra picks)...

I figured if maybe he could work out a contract to a team he would like to sign with the following season. If you tell him he wont be signed its a decent option instead of being on a terrible team and walking as a ufa. |

Is that allowed under the CBA? I thought that the sign-and-trade strategy was developed specifically for this scenario...? |

If you got offered Duclair for JV straught up would you take that deal? Just curious what others think as i doubt JB would do it and personally think we need JVs size more. |

Ya, should be able to buy somewhat low on him. Or just don't.
Oh right, conspiracy.... the lottery is rigged! Even though there are 31 millionaires with completely different and competing interest, one or two of them control Bettman and influence the independent firm hired to do the lottery! |

Strange Vantel lists 3 players & omits Demko Lind Tryamkin & blows it off with if JB didn’t draft the previous 3. Thats a strange post considering gives credit but JB still in the doghouse.
Q: what do ppl expect from JB?
Win lottos & every trade & make up for decades of loser GM’s? - Nighthawk
patience stuff takes too much time.
