I agree but imo it's better to have your primary scoring sorted out first, it's easier to supplement those guys with some gritty players through ufa/trade or later in the draft(Gadjovich/Gaudette type picks).
Bo and Brock is a nice start and hopefully EP translates into a guy who can be relied on for primary offensive in the NHL, but ideally you have a 4th forward to join them. You can then create 2 dangerous lines and have complementary players join each line to create a nice top 6.
But yeah, Canucks definitely still need more toughness that can actually play in the top 9 and we all know the defense needs a lot of help. - Nucker101
Agreed, personally I wouldn't be angry with Tkachuk or Zadina. Can Zadina play LW?
A future top 6 of
Tkachuk-EP-Boeser
X-Bo-X looks good
JV-EP-Boeser
X-Bo-Zadina would look good as well.
JV is not a 1st liner, but EP and Boeser would be enough to compensate IMO. |

I want to continue from the last blog seeing I was at work earlier. I am not angry at anything that has happened this year but I think some things could have been handled differently.
With Gudbrandson and the urgency to move him I blame on Canucks. He was a RFA last year and Canucks had hand (George Castanza) . Why not sign him to a 2 year show me deal or bridge contract ? This gives you plenty of time to evaluate ,sign , or move him.
I don't understand wanting to bring back certain players to another year or two as prospects mature. For three years we have seen a pretty boring product and the sooner it changes the better. We know what those players bring (as most of you use in your pro signing campaign) , it is not pretty. The times it has been exciting has come from the youth.
Like Marwwod said he does not support Benning but he is not sure what is better. I am on the same thinking. - VANTEL
Agreed on the Gudbranson contract length, but I am thinking that has more to do with him being difficult to negotiate with. He couldnt come to terms on his rookie contract for 13 months and then rejected a 4-year $18m deal with Florida right before they traded him to VAN |

That's where Canucks needed to play hardball IMO He was RFA. Tell him you will oblige a trade but you need time. |

Thats right. Analytics is for nerds only.
Doesnβt assess character, work ethic, engine nor maturity nor anything tangible. |

I dont think they had the leverage on him (paid high price to get him + 1 year away from UFA freedom), but it would have been mutually beneficial for him to play himself into a better situation for sure |

Thing with statistics is: I can run the same regression and come up with the same stats. You don't use them to pick a player, you do use them to say "top5 pick is clearly more valuable than trading down. Look at the statistics that back that claim up." The scouts will already based their asessments on the attributes you mentioned and come up with consensus picks for the top 5 players. in this case, it's very likely Tkachuck and Zadina round out the top5 at this point and not d-men. |
