I think all else being equal, you can prioritize positionally, but in my view you just take the best player you can. I find the talk that "drafting _______ is a good idea because he will compliment Pettersson/Boeser/Horvat in the future" ridiculous. It relies heavily on the assumption that the prospect will pan out 100% as planned, when there are many examples of players that regress or fail to meet lofty expectations - WhiteLie
I agree, but the further you get down the draft the harder "BPA" is to predict, so that is the paradox. |

Zadina's offensive upside is higher from what I've seen so far. Love Tkachuk's agitating/physicality though, but I want more EP type picks, that's what this team needs to win a cup down the road in today's NHL. - Nucker101
You need a good mixture, guys like JV, Bo, Tkachuk will thrive in drawn out playoff rounds and give guys liek EP and Boeser the space they need to do their job. You just can't have slow guys like Lucic and Maroon anymore. Tkachuk or Zadina would be fine. I prefer Svech if we go forward and prefer Dahlin over all else. |

I agree but imo it's better to have your primary scoring sorted out first, it's easier to supplement those guys with some gritty players through ufa/trade or later in the draft(Gadjovich/Gaudette type picks).
Bo and Brock is a nice start and hopefully EP translates into a guy who can be relied on for primary offensive in the NHL, but ideally you have a 4th forward to join them. You can then create 2 dangerous lines and have complementary players join each line to create a nice top 6.
But yeah, Canucks definitely still need more toughness that can actually play in the top 9 and we all know the defense needs a lot of help. |

Definitely, thats why I said BPA until the consensus drops off. Usually you have a few quality tiers of players in the top 10-15 before the rankings become really mixed |

I want to continue from the last blog seeing I was at work earlier. I am not angry at anything that has happened this year but I think some things could have been handled differently.
With Gudbrandson and the urgency to move him I blame on Canucks. He was a RFA last year and Canucks had hand (George Castanza) . Why not sign him to a 2 year show me deal or bridge contract ? This gives you plenty of time to evaluate ,sign , or move him.
I don't understand wanting to bring back certain players to another year or two as prospects mature. For three years we have seen a pretty boring product and the sooner it changes the better. We know what those players bring (as most of you use in your pro signing campaign) , it is not pretty. The times it has been exciting has come from the youth.
Like Marwwod said he does not support Benning but he is not sure what is better. I am on the same thinking.

Ya for sure, I missed that consensus part my bad. Weird that pick 15 is such a statistical anomaly. |
