I think Vancouver was the first time on NHL sized ice?
- LeftCoaster

Yup I found that out after. I guess the new facilities preplanned for Olympic size first, then reconfigured after the olympics for north american hockey

It's looking up...we need a complete reset on D and goaltending until Demko is ready but two more good draft picks and we should have a foundation to work with.
- LordHumungous

it's an impressive start to a rebuild, and another good pick coming this year.

Should have a nice little core forming there.

... almost every team in the league needs defense.

I agree. D is always in demand & gotta spend picks to get them is the only way.
Its odd nobody follows the Preds model.
Poile has always had good D.

NA is nhl sized ice most European are large and i believe Finland uses the hybrid size
- onesmallleap

They have a couple rinks that are hybrid.
With the way the game is changing over the past 15 years or so, size of players and speed of game, it would be nice to see that size become the norm here in NA.
It allows a little more space in neutral zone, helping eliminate the trap.
If I recall correctly Brian Burke was a proponent of expanding rink sizes in NHL

Love the Preds model, they pick a d in one of the first three rounds every year, it's uncanny. Poile is a very good GM. Philly has picked it up, I would say, Hextall has a pretty good stockpile of d-men as well.

This year and last year are the only years where they've been stable enough to spend. They and TB are the odds on favorites this year, I would love that final series.

I'd like them to loosen the standards of rink sizes, similarly to how they allow baseball stadiums to have various shapes and lengths for home runs, recreating home ice advantages that used to exist. Build a team and play a style that suits your rink

It does make sense, players are bigger and faster, higher skill. If they want more goals, this is the way to go.

I don't eat cereal. Don just wanted to argue last night. You've gained the reputation of arguing.

Not at all, I believe they assembled a sh!t roster. I’ve been saying this since the tournament started.

that's a pretty cool idea. Right now the only significant difference is the ice and boards.

Agree with Burke on this and Sather was also a big advocate for increasing rink sizes before all the new buildings were built...which would have made sense. As a rink operator I would say 200' X 90' would be perfect for todays game.

Playing in the local Metro Vancouver rinks, some teams home ice were Olympic sized, some were narrower than standard, some had tiny neutral zones, and some had excessive space behind the goal lines, or large offensive zones; it made things more challenging as you had to adapt while the opposition was clearly familiar

the olympics I believe are the larger ice no matter where they are played....may be wrong on that but Im pretty sure there is a standard there.
If so then these rinks CAN be changed. But it is the juniors so maybe they dont make the changes?

- SMBDragon

Nope, when the Olympics where in Vancouver they played at gm place on regular ice.

Interesting discussion on Hockeycentral at noon. They devoted at least 15 minutes talking Canucks.

Corey Hirsch was the guest
He says Boeser will shoot the puck through the goaltender if he has too. They all compared him to Hull and Bossy.
Hirsch figures Demko is a year or 2 away. They DO NOT want to rush him.
They, Hirsch, MacLean and Shannon, really like the skill of Petterson, like Gadjovich, Goldobin, Juolevi and Jake's speed.
On management they think Green has handled Jake well and teaching him to utilize his nhl skills and eliminate the skills that don't work in junior. Like how they are handling the Sedin's.
On a bad note too many on here, they like the job Benning/Linden have been doing in restocking talent.

Well the knee jerkers who say fire everyone present no solutions. Simplistic BS. JB has done quite well turning over the roster & stockpiling prospects. TL gets credit as far as hiring him & thats it. TG was groomed & will be just fine once prospects are ready. The 2019-20 season is on my calendar as judgement time to show the fans the rebuild has taken full root & worked.
