Id have to agree with that.
Say we keep tanev, pouliot, OJ, tree (hopefully) and go from there. Later when we have more depth Tanev can be traded - SMBDragon
Tanev needs to go now while he is healthy and worth something. Keeping Tanev in the lineup at this point is useless as we are still a bottom 5 team with him playing. He needs to be moved for value...now. |

100% very astute observation maybe he scores against TO tommorow and stop Buston Matteww on a scoring chance, then we can trade him while he's hot
but a more realistic chance is he gets a 4-6 week injury , we can't trade him and people still think he is elite |

In the year they took OJ. JB was after a center and PLD was taken before he could take him. Obviously other GM's are just viewing things the same way that JB is and taking the player JB wants, before JB can pick him.
From rumours over the years JB wanted Larkin, didn't hear what he wanted but BB is just fine. PLD and Makar. - manvanfan
and picture what we'd have if he'd have had his way....instead of OJ and EP we'd have PLD and makar which is much better if you ask me. Makar to me (as i stated before the draft) will be the biggest impact player.
D stars are hard to come by I say you take them when they are available. So look at how it is when you take my preferred picks Makar and Sergachev. Thats a formidable D core, something champions are made of. Makes Tanev expendible for trade of a 1st or a C.

Yet the team made gold medal final. They must know something. Sometimes building a team around chemistry you see at tryouts over individual skill will go a long way. - Retinalz
I cant find the graphic anymore but TSN showed Canada's medal count when the tournament is held on North American ice vs International and the results were near perfect on the smaller ice. Though more prospects are playing over here, I think thats a significant advantage for Canada/US |

very interesting point there, but are you sure they arent using regulation size ice for the tournament? You'd think there would be a standard.
sweden looks great though even if it is different size ice. It's possible they may have been here in NA for awhile skating on smaller ice ahead of time or even drew a new size on the ice in sweden to acclimatize |

All European rinks are to the IIHF Olympic standards while the majority of North American rinks play to NHL size, the difference is about 15 feet in width I believe
Logistically it makes no sense for a host to conform their rinks to meet a criteria, so when its in Europe the ice is bigger and Canada loses the advantage of physicality |

the olympics I believe are the larger ice no matter where they are played....may be wrong on that but Im pretty sure there is a standard there.
If so then these rinks CAN be changed. But it is the juniors so maybe they dont make the changes? |

They didn't change the ice in Vancouver, but it would make sense if there was an Olympic regulations size. |

Do you not remember Crosby's golden goal in Vancouver at GM Place? When the Olympics are in North America they play on NHL sized ice. |

During the 2010 Olympics the ice was changed to Olympic sized. It did not stay the NHL size. |

1) Only one of those guys has played in the NHL, so don't get ahead of yourself. makar is doing well in the WJC, not the AHL or the NHL or the NCAA(yet). Pettersson is looking much better than Makar.
2) When is the last time a 1C got traded? I've been a big proponent of trying to get Nuge for Tanev, but it's very rare. RyJo for Jones is the only one I can think of recently. DUchene and Drouin, depending on whether you believe they are 1 or 2 C or wingers. Either way, tAnev isn't enough to get it done. |

I was trying to find out what happened in Salt Lake City & Calgary. I know Vancouver was granted the variance from Olympic standards, but the other 2 facilities were built specifically for those Olympics and mightve been constructed with temporary measures before being adjusted to North American size afterwards |

They convinced them of the change because in the true spirit of the Olympics it "saved money and sold more tickets"

Olympic ice is 13 feet wider but still 200 feet long. NHL rinks are 200 x 85. |
