I think it’s smart. You need guys that love the Canucks to show the next guys what it means. Bringing in a bunch of older FA on their last contract is NOT the same. This is why we should being the sedins back. Having them be canucks from day 1 On means something and is a good example.

We have a few worn out veterans left from our most promising failure ... what do you want them to pass on? How pacifism will almost win you a championship? How to turn the other cheek when someone is slapping the poop out of you? How to surrender every inch of ice from your own blue line in to the goal line...then do your best to make sure your own goalie can't see the shot? Yeah....passing on how to be a " Canuck " in my eyes is vastly overrated. Id rather bring in some worn out former cup winners to mentor the youth over a bunch of guys that couldn't get it done .

Van is in the best position possible. They are losing with good players on the team. (Thanks to all the injuries) Why would you not want to add the top draft pick you are already going to get to other good players? Tanev isn't past his prime and the team isn't a middle to lower table team that "needs" to bottom out like the TML did. They are already bottoming out except for the draft lottery.

Should specify, trading Tanev for picks. Trading Tanev for a much further along prospect or an younger NHL regular is fine.

This is absolutely 100% true, you cannot have a team full of kids and expect to succeed. Veterans will insulate kids when they undoubtedly struggle and they can handle adversity better.

Finding the correct balance is the hard part, or it can be.
