Personally I don't know why people, reporters, feel the Flames should be better than they currently are? They've got three great young forwards in Monahan, Gaudreau & Tkachuk but it's pretty thin beyond that, at forward anyways. - LeftCoaster
They make trades for big names.... Dougie Hamilton and Travis Hamonic. That would be why. They think they are making the trades because they are ready to compete.
If you look at Boston, they have some good young players now but probably still aren't ready to compete, they traded away a few other big names. To gather a lot of prospects.
NYI are now looking for another Right handed D. They won't even see the rewards for trading away Hamonic for probably another 3-4 years. |

It's been talked about before in here...Flames have not addressed their 3-4 line scoring and now beyond Monny and Johhny they are having issues...you could see it all percolating. Sure their D and goaltending is OK but just ok isn't going to cut it. At the 40 game mark they are not on pace to make the PO's. They played and ok game vs a crappy CHI team last night but were very lucky to get that extra point. Could very well be WPG and the Laffs representing Canada in the PO's this year. And without Scheifele WPG will need some major secondary scoring to get in. |

Trading for Dougie Hamilton isn't going to make you win more unless you've got the horses up front to compliment that. You need two/three solid lines AND a great top four D, they don't have that. |

You can have him...don't need another Burrows here. Been there done that.
Sedins will resign for cheap...no big deal. - LordHumungous

If they feel the kids need another year of development I can see them re-signing them, but only if that's the case. |

Didn't you call Hank , Lt. Dan?
You can sign someone cheap for one year they come in a pair so it is two slow guys not one.
Anyways just my thought Hornqvist Vanek are better cheaper options |

Just a feeling. Don't really want them back but can see it happening. As long as it's super cheap put em on the third line and let em get 40pts |

Completely disagree. Trading for a 1D makes you win more. Hamilton is a crazy talent. I think they overpaid for harmonic, but Hamilton had delivered. |

Ya 2x3 to 4 millions each sounds about right. I hope it’s just for one year but suspect it may be two. I like the idea of having them in the lineup for one more training camp/season with Pettersson. Everyone knows their preparation and work ethic are top-end, be good for him and OJ to see what that looks like. Like I said, one year is enough for that... we’ll see. |

You’re wrong IMO because one great dman can win by himself just like one great Center can’t win by himself.
You need the whole package. Sure he makes them better but their forward group is just too shallow.
Kinda like how Kris Letang, who’s a great offensive dman, isn’t why the Pens win, he’s a part of it (except last year) but they win because of Crosby, Malkin and the forward depth. |

For sure it takes all 20 guys that hit the ice, but the difference between having and not having Tanev or Hamilton in the lineup is x amount of wins. Look at Columbus since getting Seth Jones. Not the only reason, but having a stud defender back there gives the whole team confidence, they play over a third of the game against the other teams best. Pitt was able to win because Schultz stepped into his place, not many teams have that depth. Underrated defenders in Maata and Dumolin too, those two have been unreal. Pitt also had two 1C’s, which makes them crazy. |

I agree, my initial comment was they don’t have enough forward depth despite how good their defense is so I don’t know why people expect them to be much better than they are.
Ferlund is their fifth leading scorer, to me that’s a glaring issue! |

Ya they need more out of Bennett/Jankowski etc. I fully expect them to make a trade. Vanek for Andersson would be unreal! |

6 million combined would still be a good deal considering their production this season. |
