So keeping Tanev as he barely plays 30-50 games per year now? Respectfully I think it's time to move on...
- LordHumungous

Team is still a bottom 5 team. Window to win isnt now. I would trade tanev yesterday, despite him being our best defensive player with the most trade value. This upcoming draft is deep too, we need more picks within the first round.

Thanks Carol for providing quality work all year long to all us NuckBuzzatics. You are a true pro busy with other higher gigs to make time to come here daily. Even engage when you can with what's on your plate. Much respect and appreciation.

All the best for the New Years and to the rest of the fallen faithful fans a better 2018 for our Canucks.

But hey nice to end 2017 soaking in some Sweden v Russia. That EP hope looks good. May it rub off on a Canuck lotto win for his fellow "comrade" ... wink....wink...

When the window opens, if he hasn't been replaced. Picks don't always pan out.

i dont know the actual stat but i would say most teams dont have more then 8 first round picks on their team drafted by them at once.

I have to admit, i had juolevi higher than sergachev. Russian factor plus the fact he was better offensively than defensively scared me. Juolevi will be a safe pick for us, just takes a bit longer than what most hoped i think
- Codes1087

What an OT. Looked like Dahlin got a stick there stopping last Russian attempt. Okay break time for some Canuck talk.

Like how you explained that dilemma of choice. Seen others saying they had Sergachev higher. But your detail of why broke it down well.

Maybe you can shed some light on why Sergachev if rated higher then OJ at 5th would be passed over from all those other teams to 9th? It's not like they couldn't use D, right? Remember the talk then that Oilers were taking OJ at 4th but surprised by CBJ.

Tanev to NYI for 2-1sts
Take out Dahlin & this draft is arguably not much deeper than the last draft.

It is a deep draft. Should get a pretty good player in 3rd round, possibly into 4th. Lots of quality.

I wanted sergachev badly.
in hindsight though, lidster and willie likely would have not played him and destroyed his development anyhow

The Oilers are an embarrassment.
Who should go Chiapet or the coach?
I’d say Chia since he inherited everything & dismantled it like a moron.
Eberle for Strome geez lol

its been said before that tanev is the nhls best Dman in shot suppression. I dont think you trade a player like that until he's in decline

We traded our 4th. Deep is a buzzword its who falls or who is picked that counts.

I hate that Nike ad. Just hate it.

Deep, when referring to draft isn't a buzzword, it has been used for decades when talent is being assessed for these kids.
We will get another pick or 2 to more than make up for the 4th we traded.

Generally if you get a top 5 pick, I think most want a game breaker type of player. Not all drafts have 5 game breakers in them. It doesn't seem as if he is a game breaker, more of just a really good D.

Tanev 2.0.

Noticed during the game that the apple fell the same way for both Matthew and Brady. Chippy kid Brady is.

Matthew isn't as good as most would lead some to believe. 48 points last season. Only on pace for around 40 points again this season. Baertschi is on a better pace.

Keep telling yourself that. Kid potted 2 tonight

Im not denying that he isnt. Waiting for a player to go on the decline before attempting to trade has been this franchises downfall for years. The fact that we got returns on hansen and burrows still shock me. We have let soo many players walk to free agency because we waited too long to trade them before their decline was too far gone for a team to trade for.

Matthews is so freaking good. I hate his eastern bias hype just as much as any but that kid is so freaking good.

We also have a glorious history of trading off talent before it's fully realized as well

Trading prospects and trading older players that are past or slightly passed their prime are massively different though

If we were really rebuilding, Tanev would be traded, you only keep players like that when you're re-tooling on the fly, so let's hope that years 5-10 of re-tooling on the fly will be more successful.

That was my point...we have a history of mismanaging from both ends of the spectrum. Not only from holding on to played out vets too long , but also giving up on young talent too soon.

I would be very surprised if any of these defensemen will be around in 3 years when we are able to compete consistently.
I would like to dump Tanev Also, as he is our most valuable asset that isn't in the fans plans for rebuilding.
Don't believe we should be trading away every single useful piece. This team needs some experienced players to lead the way.
