Back in the day .

The 14-10-2 hockey before the key injuries wasn't an improvement? If they kept up at around that pace still, they would be sitting in a playoff spot right now. I know i'm speaking in hindsight that if there wasn't injuries to some of the teams best players.

that's fine as long as they trade guys at the deadline and acquire more picks so they can get their hands on prospects like Gadjovich or Dahlen.

I think it's pretty safe we will be acquiring picks at TDL. It will take a miracle and even with Horvat and Baertchi back we only have a 3% shot of making the WC spot. Playoffs are gone so may as well build long-term.

Oh course he is, just commenting on what he'd be worth. Some team might think he's got big potential and others might think he's a bust. If you'd ask the 30 other teams my guess is each one would rate him differently.

I like Lefty's sarcasm. I can also see why I know 3 people who don't come here anymore literally because they find Nucker so annoying.

Until last season, there wasn't a lot of "assets" to manage. Didn't have worthy expiring contracts that other teams wanted.

Can't say for sure but I'd bet we were still heading for bottom 10 finish even with a healthy club. Lots of clubs are in a PO spot in December then reality just sets in. Thing is we just don't have the D and the goaltending to compete for 82 games. Yet.

We traded 2nds and McCann, signed expensive FA's.

I'd have a hard time trading Virtanen right now because i think he still has more potential than what you'd receive back in a trade. If a team wanted to overpay for him then i'd do it in a heartbeat.

I'm thinking this is NOW Benning's mindset, hopefully it continues.

This could be true. I'm not like a lot on here that want Linden gone...I honestly don't think he is much of a factor in day/day operations just a figurehead the fans can connect with. Benning on the other hand has had some gaffes like any new GM but his past few years have shown promise. I think he deserves a shot to finish his mark on the club. Not popular opinion but that's just me.

I think Linden is in a lot more than we think. I think he keeps a close eye on Benning from what I hear. I still think JB is learning.

I was always on the fence with Benning so I don't have a big disagreement.

Honestly can't anymore. Age has caught up. 6 beer is the most now without feeling like crap

I think the sooner he and everyone else forgets his draft position and just accept him for what he is the team will be able to move on. I'm disappointed he's not what I'd hoped but lots of kids like him are taken in the top 15 of the first round.

Certainly a swing and a miss but nobody bats 1000!

He does have potential. I watched him a lot here when he played for the Hitmen and JV really needs a Centre that can carry him along and feed him the puck. Then his speed and shot can be utilized. Maybe Peterson will be that guy. But JV isn't going to blow anyone away being fed by 4th line centres.

Example of last season. They started 4-0 and took until January to win 8 games in regulation or something. This season they won their 8th game in regulation like 15 games earlier. It took like 25 games last season to score 40 goals but this year it took about 15 game to score 40 goals. (all of those are just estimating when it happened).

Does that not look like an improvement from the season before? We knew before the season started that goaltending would be mediocre.

For sure...trade Vanek at TDL for assets then resign him in the summer. Could happen.

I would keep him on a reasonable contract if he didn't net a decent return at the TDL.
