If by some miracle we could pull off a top 3 pick this year that would be pretty f'in awesome!

Rasmus Dahlin
Adam Boqvist

Both the kinda future Dmen we need or Svechnikov a very nice consolation prize.

What do we do if we land a second overall and Dahlin goes first?

Probably continue to “Edmonton” ourselves & take a forward

And before anyone gives the “BPA” argument & just trade a forward for defense...

How’d that work out for the Oilers?
That’s right...

He and Pysyk. I can't tell whether people actually like them
- jcragcrumple

If they like winning they like those players

What happened to managements ability to find talent????

Name the 6 players Ruff choose in the playoffs, final minute of game 5 against the Rangers...
- washedup20

My buddy got me into the KeyBank Box for that one. It was great.

I could throw M&Ms onto HardHats seats in the 13th row.

There's too many variables. If somehow the sabres pick 5, and 3 Dmen have gone, it very well may be BPA. Botts took 2 centers in the first 2 last year

Or they might take a d-man? Or our gm isn't stupid like chiarelli?

Well we all know how I feel about drafting Defensemen

But in all seriousness

If we trade Kane for a legit young defenseman prospect...
And trade Reinhart for defense...

Well then drafting a forward high makes sense

We really need to address the defense in a major way
Now, AND for the future

If we take Centers with our top 2 picks again, I think my head might explode

(Unless we make other trades for Defensemen first)

We’re just so thin on defense...

If the evaluation between two players is close, I'm sure they go D, but Botterill seems like a BPA guy if there's someone he really likes

I understand the theory of BPA...
and I’m not against it

We just need to do something with our defense

And besides Guhle...
we have maybe Borgen & maybe Fitzgerald
Besides that,
we don’t have anything coming in the pipeline

The Stars have traded Jamie Oleksiak to the Pittsburgh Penguins for a conditional fourth-round pick

I would have done that trade, we've talked about Oleksiak for a while now

My recollection is that he was a great big slow guy, maybe not bad in a different system, but does he work here?

I think the BPA argument wins out in the 1st round as there is a larger, known skill and potential difference between prospects. 2nd-7th round, we should be targeting mostly defenders as you say, but at pick 1-6...it's fairly set in stone and the real decisions are usually made by the teams drafting ahead of you.

Question: Would you take McIsaac over Zadina? Or really would you draft a top10 ranked defender over a top5 forward, knowing the forward had more potential and a higher ceiling?

For only a 4th though....

Although if he doesn’t fit what Botts/Housley is trying to do,
then no point in throwing away the pick

yes, yes, you dont like ROR
- jcragcrumple

I want him to be a leader on this team

way too talented for this team to be 30th place

and he plays a fraction of the game he plays for team canada

it's not a crime to expect your better players to lead this team to a much better place then where we are at

I don't believe that to be true (if you're referring to the team). If you're referring to just ROR well same thing + it's one guy out of 20

the second line sucks and he is the anchor

he needs to worry more about getting the puck out of the corner and back checking then rehashing the same blah post game interview of why they lost

So if there's an opportunity to play him with potentially good wingers (Smith and Baptiste) why wouldn't you want to try that. It would probably make him better, and make them better
