yeah...I almost sold them...habs friends of mine were so discouraged with how their season was going a little over a month ago that they told me that they weren't buying them...so I sold that pair for close to twice the price I paid so my tickets are almost free...
I almost sold mine 2 weeks ago with how the Sens were playing but I figured it's a one-time opportunity to get to experience it and almost free to boot!
just sucks that both teams are terrible...might work out in the end...2 negatives make 1 positive no?!

- Raven33

Did they make you buy them, or did you just purchase single-game tix?

Eugene Melnyk is a Billionaire, he doesn't have financial issues.
He may have Liquid cash issues, but that typically is how the medical industry works... Spend lots of money and be short on liquid cash for a few years and then get a huge pay out once the meds hit the market.

But make no mistake you can simply google "Eugene Melnyk net worth"

Right away it states...

"He is the founder, former chairman and CEO of Biovail Corporation which was acquired by Valeant Pharmaceuticals. Canadian Business magazine ranked Melnyk 79th with a net worth of $1.21 billion on its 2017 list of Canada's 100 wealthiest people. He is also one of the richest residents of Barbados, where he now lives."

I would never question his money, he is a wealthy man.
I would question his commitment level to the Sens, having the money and not spending to the cap says a lot. Mostly that he is still pissed off at the city for not allowing him to build that huge Casino in Kanata.

- Maverick1818

He’s richer than you and I, but his networth amongst other wealthy peeps isn’t what it used to be.

Way too many rumours that a sale or new partnership will be in occurring for it not to happen. I liked the one quote in the Sun article regarding refinancing of the team debt: “This involves accountants, bankers and lawyers. I am not directly involved in this process except for the occasional visit and greetings.” Wouldn’t you want to be more on the inside or this kind of undertaking if it’s simply just for refinancing?

There's different degrees of wealthy. Yeah he has more money than any of us, but running a hockey team is expensive. Didn't Melnyk's shares in Biovail tank wildly, like 90+% wise?
- david22

It's hard to say because the Quote I put on is from 2017.

I'm almost positive that it dropped before the sale to Valeant meaning that his shares tanking would be bounced back several times since then. Him being worth 1.21 Billion in 2017 is impressive. Especially with the way the Canadian Economy has gone in the last two or so years.

I still think his problem is that he's still pissed off that the city would let him build a Casino in Kanata. Because if you trace it back, as soon as that happened was when he stopped spending to the cap.

Rich owners, never finance with their own personal money, they always secure financing and renegotiating their financing is a normal business practice.

I hope you have a good time!

I’ve just never found the allure of a hockey game on a football field. All views will be absolute garbage. While it’s a little better on a baseball field, it’s still garbage viewing. Why shell out 3 times the price for worse hockey and freeze your nads off?

The possibility of a “pop-up” arena on Parliament Hill was intriguing, but I guess the logistics just didn’t add up so you have to go with the unoriginal football field hockey game.

They really have to put an end to these things, but alas, it’s all about the Benjamin’s. I’d just have the All-Star game outside and be done with it.

Thanks! And I mostly agree with you...But it'll be off the ol' bucket list! lol
...and I went to the All Star 3-day event as well in Ottawa...Game was ok but the Skills were fun to watch... The All Star "pre-party" (the 1st day) was pretty cool though!

Didn't have to buy them...as a STH, they allowed us to purchase them early with a max of 4 tix...that's all I wanted anyways...
Now since my habs friends didn't want to come and I sold them, I will be sitting next to the ones that bought the tickets! LOL

Ya. I went to the All-Star Game and Skills too. I enjoyed both. The slap shot contest with Chara and Weber was legendary and it was really cool to give Alfie a couple of standing O’s during the game. That was a bucket list item for me.

I totally support the idea of wanting to go to an outdoor game, just isn’t for me with the way it’s presented on a football field.

Just please don’t be one of those goofs that go for the 1st period and leave. So many people left half way through the Grey Cup in November and came to the pub my buddies and I were at. It was embarrassing. Especially hearing people say crap like “it was just fun to say we were there” or “way to cold”. You’re living in effing Canada and got tickets to an outdoor event in winter. What do you expect? If you don’t want to be cold, don’t get the ticket. It served them right that the game ended on a final play. Let out a nice “wouldn’t it be cool to be there” with all the goofs around.

The point of the ryan and phaneuf contracts was to show the ($) value we still have for them. I would have no problem with Phaneuf being signed 3-4 years @4.5-5m. Ryan is different only because of his hand but based on playoff performance and history, 5 year term at 5m wouldn't be so damaging. They got to shut him down and get his hands working 100%

Phaneuf was acquired through trade with his current contract. Ottawa did not sign him to that, Toronto did. Ryan was signed to his contract by Ottawa before his hand/fingers were an issue.

Chris Neil - the best enforcer/tough guy in the past 15 years. He knew when to mix it up, he could change the energy and momentum of a game with a hit or a fight, and was skilled enough to play regular minutes for a large portion of his career (even PP!). He could fight with anyone, most often the best in the league, and win. He has never been suspended and played clean despite is roughness. He was known as an excellent teammate and a leader on and off the ice. I wish we had a player like him on the team today.

Yes.
On paper he's worth 1.2 billion.
But break it down.

Forbes has the Sens listed at 440 million. And he doesn't own them outright.
He's re-financed them TWICE. It's like a 22 year old saying he owns his own home.
Scotiabank owns it. He's sold all his horses/stables. His properties in BB are also "financed". His stocks did take a huge hit and he's slowly been rebounding.

He's not in trouble....but it's not great.

And he usually LOVES to get in front of the media and mouth off. And he's suddenly quiet? Sketchy.

hard to say. so much of his holdings are private.

if were to throw out a guess, i could see him being a prime candidate to get busted for international tax evasion.

To be fair, what giant corporation isn’t committing fraud or doing something not by the book?

They basically did, and still are, with Michalek, Greening, and Cowen. I actually like Phaneuf. He played solid in the playoffs. Scored a key OT playoff goal. He's a solid player and team guy. Is he overpaid? Sure, but not to the point where it upsets many fans.

They're better at not getting caught.

I like the transformation from "I wanna (frank) him" to pure disgust.
