No single team is giving up the amount of assets that NSH/OTT pooled together to send to COL. It's impossible for a franchise to part with that much talent.

Which is why, I think OEL isn't going anywhere. Arizona has plenty of cap room to keep him too.

Of course they do, they aren't going to trade him because they want to. They're going to trade him if they think/know that he wants to go to a non-dysfunctional team and doesn't plan on re-signing.

If he wants to stay in ARI and make a lot of money playing hockey, but doesn't care about winning, he'll stay and they won't move him.

If you're a GM, you wouldn't ask for the biggest haul possible for a top pair D you currently own with 1 extra year on his contract? C'Mon man. Again, I get it was 1 3-team trade, but Zona is going to want the same haul Sakic got for Duchene.
- bgainesDM

Of course he would. But there's going to be a negotiation. If Arizona says we want bgaines' offer for OEL and thats final...then he simply isn't getting traded.

That is a very young team he's playing for that's growing. In 2 years, they'll easily be playoff bound. He doesn't strike me as a cancer like Duchene.

I could go pointing out that NSH only had to trade Shea Weber and his putrid contract for PK Subban, or that NJD landed Hall for a middle-pairing defenseman. But those two scenarios and the three team trade are what they are....rare.

In all honesty...if OEL is locked up long term that trade 1 for 1 is very fair. However, there's just no way the Isles could do it. As much as they need OEL for a cup run, they need barzal for a cup run just as much. It would be a lateral move at best.

And I think Snow should be kicking the tires on OEL. The centerpiece of the Isles' offer should be the two first round picks the Isles have in what is supposed to be a deep draft class. Because the Isles are in (or should be in) win-now mode, they should not be looking to give up a ton of talented roster players.

If gaines is right, that Arizona will be making Sakic-like demands, then move on.....

I don't believe that. It's possible they make it in, but "easily" is a major stretch. Lots of good teams in the Pacific, and the West in general. Teams currently outside of the playoff picture include CHI, CGY, and ANA. I don't see them being better than any of those three teams, or the ones sitting with wildcard spots, in the next two years.

Clayton Keller is fantastic. Strome, while barely into his career, has yet to show a single shred of anything that justifies him being as highly touted as he was. Guys like Domi, Dvorak, Fischer, and Perlini are all young and talented, but I'm not sure any of them turn into anything "special".

They have abhorrent goaltending with no help in the system and OEL and Hjalmarsson are as likely to be traded or walk as they are to stick around.

They're going to be the new Florida Panthers. All the bloggers and writers love them because they have a few talented young players and are an analytics-driven team and we'll get 1,000 articles explaining why they're the next great thing. But the reality is likely to be that they will consistently remain a middling-to-bottom tier team.

that move by snow for hamonic was great as he hasn't been great for Calgary, wasn't good here last year and those picks are huge in a trade because we have two in the 1st and 2nd. he can literally part with a forward and a d prospect as we have a bunch and one of the roster that oel would replace. its not out of the realm of possibility however I doubt it happen

better goalie sure but no way do we take webers contract and losing jt makes them a one line team again. this is a bad move all around also price has an absurd contract as well

McDonagh is a LH shot, right?

RHD who are set to become UFA's after this season:

- Green
- Gudbranson
- John Carlson (who, as much as I'm convinced will be locked up by the Caps, I would LOVE to see the Isles take a run at)
- That's about it

- eichiefs9

Always slim pickins on the right side.

Agree Carlson is not seeing the market

Enough of this OEL talk the ISlanders will never get him so why bother talking about him?

Seeing all these trade proposals are hilarious. You have to think lower we are dealing with GArth Snow. He will get a 5 or 6 defenseman who plays defense. That is what this team needs right now a defenseman not an offensive defensman.

if you get OEL.... yes it is a stretch.. you won't have to play defense because you will have the puck

Dan not convince of that. The ISlanders need big defensive men who can clear the zone play the body and play defense. That is what this team is lacking right now. They do not have that established defense man yet

If they get one of those they'll also need a time machine to go back to an era where that type of player was useful
